Farm Pond Construction Progress in Muscatine County
In 1966 Muscatine county farms added several ponds supervised by Archie Casebolt of the Soil Conservation Service. Ponds reduce flood damage improve water supply for livestock and fire protection and offer recreation and wildlife benefits. ACP aid covers up to 60 percent of costs. Some ponds range from 0.4 to 1.7 acres with full depths around 11 feet. A large watershed is needed to maintain water during dry periods.
