Injunction Granted For Restaurant Injury In Muscatine

A Muscatine County district court awarded $8,747 to the son of Thelma Recktenwald for injuries suffered March 14 after she fell on unlighted cafe steps. Executors note 42 hospital days before death, against cafe operators Virginia and Lucille La Rue. Hospital costs totaled $2,302 with additional injuries listed.

Waste Water Plant Volume Doubles In Muscatine

Daily flow at Muscatine's Waste Water Treatment Plant has reached about 50 tons of solids, up from 25 tons six months ago, largely due to Wolverine World Wide tannery operations financing an expansion. Sludge is dumped behind the plant, raising ground 6.8 feet and covering it with fill dirt. a six month capacity is expected before a new site is needed.

Two Men Hospitalized After Local Accidents

Two Muscatine residents are hospitalized after separate crashes. Keith Raymod Stych, 24, suffered head injuries and was in good condition after his sports car ran off Hershey Avenue. Dennis Hawkinson will face court for failure to control. Gene Schmelzer, 26, was treated for a cut lip and abrasions after his car hit a utility pole on West Mississippi Drive. A third accident on Cedar Street at East 3rd damaged two cars driven by Myrna Tames and Eugene Healey.

Muscatine Firm Is Low Bidder On Canton Job

Muscatine contractor William S. Robertson submitted the apparent low bid of 15200 to the Rock Island District for replacing the lower end of the land guide wall at Lock No. 20 in Canton Missouri. McKenzie Marine Construction Company of Burlington was second with 19212 and three others bid up to 27525. Government estimate without profit was 10000. Work is slated for January and February to remove and replace the damaged section of the wall.

Muscatine County Seeks Final Push in Seal Drive

Muscatine County residents have contributed 5384.40 to the annual Christmas Seal campaign. The drive aims for 8779, with campaign chairs Mrs. Arlen Elliott and Mrs. Wayne Wetzel urging more gifts. Seal funds support tuberculin testing and research, and donations are encouraged as a health gift.
