Chicago Illinois December 7 The Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul Railway company pleaded guilty today in seven government cases alleging violation of the livestock car rule. Judge Landis heard arguments and took the penalty question under advisement.
John M. Holcomb of the Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company said the Hartford based firm will withdraw from Wisconsin for the safety of policyholders. The Phoenix is the fourth company to announce it will cease operations in Wisconsin after the new year due to recently enacted state laws.
Involuntary bankruptcy filings were entered in federal court against the Stephenson Co. and Whitney, Stephenson & Co. of Pittsburg. The Whitney firm shows liabilities around 360000 dollars and assets totaling 700000 dollars with Whitney and Stephenson.
Milbury Mass December 7 Mrs Louisa M Taft mother of Secretary Taft is said to be failing gradually and very low. Cuxhaven December 7 the steamer President Grant carrying Secretary Taft and party left for New York today.

Miss Lizzie Teeters a longtime West Liberty resident died today at 12 39 PM at age 52 after fifty years in the area and seven years of invalid status She is survived by two sisters Mrs May Rutherford of Burlington and Mrs Nell Evans of West Liberty and a brother John Teeters of Lincoln Neb Her mother died last November Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
A Webster City Iowa report states four thousand dollars hidden in an upstairs stove burned when the J J Moore residence caught fire. The money belonged to Geo Cunningham of Boone who had drawn it from the bank and brought it to the Moore house for the winter. The family was away at the time of the blaze.
Twenty persons aboard Chicago South Bend and Northern Indiana railway cars were seriously injured when a baggage car rammed a passenger coach between South Bend and Mishawaka. The injured were taken to St. Joseph hospital for treatment.
Washington, Dec 7 West Liberty girls basketball defeated Washington girls 18 to 12 after a hard fought game. West Liberty press and quick passing secured the lead in the second half. Washington struggled to convert shots from the field and free throw opportunities were limited.
The Cunard steamer Carmania, after departing Pier 7 this morning, ran aground in the Ambrose channel. No distress signals were shown and no damage is believed to have occurred. The incident was reported from New York City on December 7.

In Fairmont the previous night 380 workers were counted in Mines Nos 6 and 8 with six bodies recovered and five survivors hospitalized in precarious condition.
