Muscatine officials created the Muscatine Airport commission by ordinance on Thursday. S. G. Stein E. L. McColm John C. Barry W. F. Bishop and O. A. Hammer were named to five four three two and one year terms respectively. Mayor Herbert A. Thompson praised the former airport supporters as the council adopted the ordnance and deed to the airport property.

Kasnas City AP Major Charles A Shepard army tuberculosis specialist faces a tough jury selection in federal court for the alleged poison murder of his second wife. A 25 veniremen panel was summoned as many read Shepard’s published case statement. Judge Hopkins barred quoting his statement to influence jurors. Eleven unbiased jurors remained as peremptory challenges stood at one for the government and nine for the defense. Iowa Basketball Star Spradling Killed in Crash Near Shueyville
Robert Spradling of Frankfort Indiana, a University of Iowa basketball player and 1929 1930 team member, was killed near Shueyville when his car collided with another driven by Louis Langhurst of Fairfax. Langhurst and a passenger were injured. Spradling was 24, a Phi Gamma Delta member and brother of Purdue star George Spradling. He had not reported to coach Rollie Williams this season. The body was shipped to Frankfort as Iowa students identified him in Cedar Rapids.

Death claims Mrs Hess at 79 in Muscatine
Mrs Andrew Hess, 79, died at her home 909 East Tenth Street at 8 15 after a short illness with pneumonia. She came to Muscatine with her mother Julia Riemcke as a child. She married Andrew Hess on May 14, 1873 and funeral arrangements are being made by Meyers Funeral Home.
