Des Moines August 29. N T Guernsey counsel for the Iowa Telephone company asked Judge Sanborn of the U S circuit court in St Paul for an injunction to restrain local labor leaders from pursuing a boycott or interfering with the companys employees. Judge Sanborn issued a temporary order.

In Keokuk Iowa Mrs Vina Keller wins a de facto success as her infant remains in her care with the child declared under arrest for vagrancy. The infant was hidden at a sister’s home but located by police. Public emotion subsides though opposition to the law lingers after a judge voids the Iowa statute for lack of proper title and jury trial.
Five of six Battle Creek sanitarium employees drowned when their row boat was struck by the steamer Welcome on Lake Cognac. Drowned were Mabel Richerd 26 a stenographer Carrie Brock survived. Lizzie Brady 25 a nurse Della Dorsey 21 a nurse from Allegheny Fanny Willis a nurse from near Toronto. F Bennett male nurse from Dallas.
Milwaukee August 29 Chairman Leak of the Brotherhood of Trainmen grievance committee denied that members planned a gigantic strike. He said they will demand a slight wage increase in November.
Iowa City reports that physical culture is now required for freshmen and sophomores at the university and an elective for juniors and seniors. The change ensures female students have the same opportunity for physical development as male students.

In Galesburg Illinois on August 29 Oliver Hunt and S C Wood two longtime residents drowned after their horse bolted across a low bridge the buggy tipped and they were trapped under water about a foot deep in a shallow creek.
Local authorities across France may set all reasonable speed limits for motor cars in Laon after many complaints that police fail to enforce existing laws. The step follows official intimations to police to tighten speed regulation.

In Northwood Iowa on August 29 Chris Sand vold and his son Morris of Knathold Minnesota were killed when a Rock Island express hit their buggy returning from Albert Lea. The intoxicated father crossed the track at a curve with obstructed view. The buggy was destroyed and the horse escaped. The coroner's jury cleared the train crew.
Des Moines reports total receipts of the state fair up to midnight Wednesday at 32840 dollars. The figure nears the weekly total from a year ago and suggests a final week total around 59900 dollars with most of the proceeds remaining as net profit after expenses.

Manassas Younker formerly of Des Moines and brother to Marcus and Joseph Younker died yesterday in Keokuk Iowa. The death was caused by dysentery. He was the leading dry goods merchant in Keokuk and an early pioneer merchant of southeastern Iowa.
