Ryan once served time in the state penitentiary for horse stealing and was convicted in Crawford County and sent to Waupun prison for similar offenses. He also took part in a jail breaking attempt at Prairie du Chien during which the sheriff's sister who tried to stop his escape was badly beaten.
A thresher and engine accident at F A J Grays farm six miles southeast of Wilton Iowa caused Ed Fulmer to die within minutes. He was crushed after being caught on a footboard as the engine backed up. Fulmer, about 35, left a wife and several children and was conscious briefly before dying. No coroner's inquest was held and funeral was planned for Saturday at 2 PM.
Mrs Eva Wrendt fled a blazing New York apartment, leaping from the fourth floor to escape the flames. She died of the fall while four men were injured, none seriously, as the blaze raged this morning.
