Button Code Meeting Could Produce One Industry Code
A Washington conference of nine national button associations will meet with James C. Worthy of the NRA next week to merge the six proposed codes into a single industry code. The fresh water pearl button code sets a 44 hour week a 30 cent hourly wage and a six month apprenticeship with home carding exemptions and two thirds pay for handicapped workers. It also requires two 44 hour shifts for finishing and calls for mussel shell conservation rules. The code preserves employer and employee bargaining rights and aims to simplify administration.
