As of Aug 1 1939 the state expects 465,072,000 bushels at 36 cents averaging 167,425,820 dollars in potential farm purchasing power. Iowa farms total 214,000 with 9,791,000 acres in corn about 18 percent of US corn. Illinois trails with 16 percent. Iowa yields average 47.5 bushels per acre this year versus 1928–1939 ten year average 35.5. About 85–90 percent of Iowa corn is fed on farm. 15–20 percent sold commercially. In 1938 cash farm income 65 percent from cattle hogs sheep. livestock sales in six months through June 1939 reached 293,011,000, up from 251,311,000 last year.
