Anamosa farm youth Harvey Eye was shot at the Tullos McGuire farm home nine miles southeast of Anamosa and is in fair condition after bullet wounds to the side and arm. McGuire surrendered to authorities and is held pending charges. Eye and the elder McGuire’s wife were aboard the farm when the shooting occurred after Eye sought discharge amid alleged marital tensions. Eye received a blood transfusion to save his life.
Claude Callan notes Minnie’s frugal habits as she borrows six eggs when price is 30 cents and returns them as costs fall, illustrating thrift in daily life.
Muscatine county Farm Bureau Women and Paren's division met at the courthouse Tuesday with Mrs Mary Gregg of Ames, assistant state leader, to study child development and habits that build wholesome personality. Topics included obedience for self reliance, behavior problems, children's use of money, sharing home duties and pleasures. Training school methods were to be used in the study.
Alma H. Jones of Ames, child care and training specialist, will present material for the respective subjects to Miss Elizabeth Armstrong, county home demonstration agent, who will hold a training school in each township before township chairmen, publicity chairmen and school district.

Chicago police say a 23 year old youth known as Piccolo Pete Paco killed Policeman Patrick J. Ryan after Ryan refused a drink offered by the suspect. Paco later gave a confession describing the struggle during the gunfire that fatally wounded Ryan, 45, leaving four children and an invalid wife.
General Italo Balbo's seaplane fleet completing a leg from the Azores to Lisbon encountered a deadly takeoff mishap in Ponta Delgada. One aviator died, three were injured as a giant craft overturned. the rest of the 24-ship force continued toward Portugal with 23 planes finally moored on the Tagus.
Leo Duster of Cedar Rapids was elected commander of the Iowa department of the American Legion succeeding W Earl Hall of Mason City. Duster a battery E 126th field artillery veteran entered service May 28 1917 discharged Jan 20 1919 served five months overseas and attained sergeant rank. Sioux City chosen as 1934 convention city. Knoxville drum and bugle corps named state champion with Maquoketa Le Mars Gowrie following.
Muscatine county relief figures for July show 69 percent of aid went to unemployed individuals. County dependents received 166 people at a cost of 1154.32 dollars, work relief aided 72 people at 2281.69 dollars, direct relief 453 unemployed at 1206.95 dollars, plus 292.94 dollars in blind pensions for 44 individuals, totaling 4935.90 dollars for 1389 recipients. Board members continued processing claims and approved several domestic animal reimbursements.

A 75 foot oil tanker exploded about a mile off Rockaway Beach, Queens, burning to the water and causing an estimated $20,000 in damage. No injuries were reported.
Walter Winchell files a 500000 damages suit against Al Jolson in New York alleging defamation tied to a Hollywood remark. Winchell says Jolson was served last Thursday and the hearing location and date remain to be determined by his attorneys.
