Serene Listen to Lions Club Broadcast in New York City

A Lions Club radio program hosted by John P. Kennedy airs Saturday April 28 at 8 p.m. from New York City with a direct wire to major stations including KSL. Eagles Social Night Delights Fraternal Hall Crowd

Last Friday the Eagles and friends gathered in Fraternal Hall for a lively social evening. Wm Cannegieter MC'd a splendid program with dancing, Pantatropes, vocal numbers by Miss Trene Cannegleter, duets by Misses Erva and Merle Hobbs, and a top dance by Elmer and Aggie Peters. The event left many eager for more future gatherings.

West Midh routs Murray in high-scoring track meet style game

West Midh claimed an 87 to 7 victory over Murray in a one half game that resembled a track meet. Elkrem piled five hits in five at bats and Moore tallied five doubles in six trips as West Midh swarmed the Murray mound. Rosh started for Murray, worked four innings, with Anderson allowing six hits in the final three.

Fire at Holliday Lumber Office and Dr Greenwood Home

County firemen battled a Holliday Lumber Co office blaze on Nighland Drive causing about 80 dollars in damage to fixtures before East Lake Country Fire men arrived to control it. A separate fire at Dr Greenwood's Sandy home, sparked by a chimney, was contained by county crews using well water. The Joues were destroyed by the flames.

Granite School District Considers Teacher Pay Increases

The Granite district board plans to reconsider its refusal of teacher pay raises for the coming year after a petition from a 9 member teachers committee led by Harold Lee. The committee backs the district’s progressive program but urges economies in other areas and prefers an eight and a half month schedule with small increases over a nine month plan without raises. Superintendent Francis W. Kirkham will submit a detailed proposal at the next meeting, while the board anticipates a deficit regardless of budget economies.

Edwin Brown dies at 86 in Murray Utah

Edwin Brown died at the family home on Murray on Tuesday April 17 at age 86. A longtime Utah resident since 1853 he was active in L D 8 church work, served in Brigham Youngs Civil War volunteer company, and was the first trustee of the Murray school board. He is survived by his widow Dexdemona Fox Brown five daughters two sons a brother and two sisters and numerous grandchildren great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Murray Debaters Win Four Contests in Triangular Meet

Murray high school debate teams swept four wins in the triangle against West and Davis and will advance to the Utah state championship at the University of Utah on May 11. Murray’s affirmative and negative squads, led by coach Melvin Strong, both won their debates, with Frank Thone and Eugene Jones defeating West, and Murray defeating Davis.

Murray High School reporters celebrate a second debate victory as the Murray team defeats Davis in a special assembly held April 17 at the Murray high school. Judge Luellyn McEway from the University of Utah presided, with critics from Weber College and local legal professionals serving.

Resident of Sandy Obituary for Jane Elizabeth Brown

Jane Elizabeth Brown aged S died Sunday at her Sandy home after a long illness. Survived by three sons Hubert Blum Alma Blum and Liewellyn Brown two daughters Mrs Ada Brown and Mrs Wilde Brown eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren two brothers and eleven sisters. Funeral was held Wednesday at 2 00 p m in the Sandy Second Ward chapel with Bishop Jensen presiding. Interment followed at Sandy City Cemetery under George A Jenkins Mortuary direction.

Murray Woman's Club Reschedules April Meeting Date

The Murray Woman's Club moved its April meeting from April 20 to Wednesday April 2 to avoid conflicting with the State Convention in Ogden.
