100000 To See Dodger Giant Duel
LOS ANGELES AP You probably have to go back to Athens and Sparta to find two cities less in love with each other than San Francisco and Los Angeles. This is one way of explaining why 100,000 people will spend $230,000 the next couple of nights to watch the Giants play the Dodgers in a baseball series that will leave the two clubs no more than a few games apart with more than 100 games to go. On the strength of their recent record, one might marvel that the Giants could outdraw a lecture on etruscan ceramics. They suffered their seventh straight loss Sunday when they were beaten 3-0 at Houston. Since they left home last that the Giants have lost 11 of The Dodgers, who beat Chicago 11-8 Sunday, had to win their last five just to break even on their 1d-game trip. But they did come home in first place, one-half gone ahead of St. Louis and two games ahead of the Giants and Cubs. Right-hander Juan Marichal 8-3 will start for San Francisco tonight against right-hander Bob Miller 4-2, who has never beaten the Giants.
