Deaths Lucy Tolley Dies At Age 71

Lucy Tolley of 721 South Tenth Street died at 12 50 a m at Jefferson Memorial Hospital after two weeks illness. She was 71 years four months and one day old. Funeral services are set for Monday at 3 00 p m at Central Church of Christ with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. The body may be viewed at Myers Chapel after 11 a m Sunday and will lie in state at the church noon Monday until the service. She was born February 1 1885 in Spring Garden township to Joseph P and Elizabeth Hayes Wells and married Joseph N Tolley who died July 9 1938. She leaves three sons Norman E Harold J and Billy W of Mt Vernon. a daughter Mrs Harry Ethridge of Mt Vernon. two brothers Newton Wells of Mt Vernon and Roscoe Wells of Nason. three sisters Rade Ventress Venice Illinois Grace Williamson and Sarah Stevenson Mt Vernon. and four grandchildren.

George Clark Rites Tomorrow

Funeral services for George H. Clark will be held Sunday at 2 00 p m at Myers Chapel. The Rev Charles Karch will officiate and burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Mr Clark died at 915 a m Friday at his home 1224 Welkins at the age of 88. He was a retired employee of the carp er.

Two Men Rescue Dog On Stone Mountain

Elias Nour and B S Ivey descended about 750 feet from the summit to reach a frightened dog on Stone Mountain. The animal had slipped and fallen to an iron stake, then teetered near a 35 foot drop before rescuers retrieved it and it was taken to the Atlanta Humane Society for treatment.

Pretty Atlanta Secretary Slain In Payroll Robbery

In downtown Atlanta a secretary named Inez Johnson, 30, was killed during a $2,400 payroll robbery at the Ingram Mantel and Tile company. Police say the killer struck within about ten minutes during lunch hour. Johnson left behind a 10-year-old son. Herbert Harcourt, 26, found the scene ten minutes after the crime.

Jefferson County Industrial Group to Meet Sunday

A meeting of the Jefferson County Industrial Organization formerly known as the Out of Town Workers Club will be held at 9 00 am Sunday at the courthouse. Unknown Corpse Is His Brother Identified in New Jersey

In North Brunswick a cemetery worker identified a drowned man found in a shallow brook as his brother Joseph Jaqui, 45, after describing the clothes at Van Liew Cemetery. Middlesex County coroner William Jaqui confirmed the identification by fingerprints.

Piercy Hired As Asset Operator At Sewage Plant

Wayne W. Piercy of 208% north Fourth street has been hired as an assistant operator at the Mt. Vernon sewage treatment plant. City Manager Harlow Richard son announced the selection from eight applicants. Piercy, formerly with Montgomery Ward for five years, will start mid June. The hiring raises plant staff to three workers, following council authorization for an additional position.

Troop Train Halted After White and Negro Soldiers Fight

Crocker Missouri officials say a Frisco train carrying 400 soldiers was halted Friday night after reports of fighting between white and Negro troops. Military police from Ft. Leonard Wood boarded, separated the combatants, and restored order. authorities issued no comment.

A Belleville man, Denver M. Burlison, 65, died after his auto collided with a police car rushing a woman bitten by a spider to St. Mary's Hospital in EAST ST. LOUIS. The woman, Margaret Koenig, 57, endured bruises. her daughter Rose Brown, 29, suffered a head cut and possible concussion. Koenig sustained a finger bite from a black widow.
