Local notes show numerous residents visiting relatives and spending holidays in Mt. Vernon. Returns include Mr. and Mrs. William E. Dycus to Granite City, families from Chicago and Toledo, and several Mt. Vernon residents visiting or hosting kin. Several enduring injuries and recoveries noted, plus a Tucson move for Mrs. Harry Rutherford and anew year plans.
Mr and Mrs Edmund Record welcomed a six pound six ounce son born at 11 10 p m yesterday at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Mr and Mrs J Murray Eckert of North Tenth Street Vernon welcomed a daughter this morning at Good Samaritan Hospital named Gilda Jean. A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Ray Joseph Taylor at Good Samaritan Hospital Tuesday morning named Rayanna Sue.
Admission list includes Abbie Hogue, Eu gene Rollins, Alexandra Zicos, Geneva Summers of Greenville, Pa. Discharges note Ray Barger, Ruth Garrison, Helen Morton, Victor Hundley of Bruford, Raymond Talbert of Wayne City, Gail Erkman of Fairfield, Lloyd Harris of Mattoon, Mrs. Maxine Flota and infant son.
Admitted: Mrs Norma Rutherford, Jack Hunsaker of Benton, Mrs Gertrude Record. Discharged: Joseph Johnson of Albion, Mrs Claude Ivers of Fairfield and infant daughter Nancy Ellen.
Coroner Sam Simmons reported the two month old Robert Lyell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger K. Lyell of Energy, died yesterday by suffocation. The infant was found dead in a crib.
Lory A. Van Horn, Mt. Vernon grocer and fourth ward alderman, formally announced his candidacy for mayor. He notes city government and business experience, has led a local banner in labor support, and vows to govern in the best interests of all Mt. Vernon residents.

Mary Eldridge died at 6:15 this morning at 1014 S Sixth St Mt Vernon. She was 80 years nine months and 22 days old. Funeral 1:30 p m Friday at Myers Chapel with burial in Maple Till cemetery Fairfield. Survived by husband Marshall D Eldridge four sons Charles George John Ralph and five daughters Rose White Della Smith Flossie Galloway Fiona Rosenberger May Haws and others.
Mt Vernon Lodge No 31 A F and A M installed officers this week led by Worshipful Master Krank J Ancona. Senior Warden Henry Mossberger and Junior Warden Thomas Bartholomew served with other officers including treasurer T Glen Pettit secretary W D Peckenpaugh and chaplain Wm E Reavis. Retiring Master H Bell Gaston received a Past Masters ring as installing officer Harry L Bates District Deputy Panel Master of the 92nd district facilitated the ceremony.

Homer Bill Wilson, a Jasper county farmer, was released on $25,000 bond in Crawford county circuit court on a second murder trial. Judge Benjamin Eovaldi set the bond as his earlier death sentence was lifted by the Illinois Supreme Court and a new trial ordered after the body of Laverne Wilson, 23, was found in a burned barn on their farm near Oblong on February 3, 1947.

B E Crissinger about 55 was found dead this morning in his room at Ed Garrison home 315 north Ninth street Winemac Indiana. He was a car inspector for the Union Pacific Railroad and had roomed at the Garrison home since September 17. He had been complaining of a cold recently but died suddenly.
Lyda Mae Mulligan of East St. Louis died suddenly last night at the home of Mr and Mrs El mer Nelson near Irvington. She had been visiting since Sunday. Body taken to East St. Louis for funeral services. funeral arrangements were incomplete.
