An elderly Benton man died yesterday afternoon at home. Survived by his wife and grandchildren. The family will receive visitors at the Drake funeral home in Benton today. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. with Rev Harpole officiating. Burial details provided by the Drake home.
Infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl P. Berst died Monday at Samaritan Hospital shortly after birth. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Otho Williams were held at 2:00 p.m. at Horse Run Cemetery in Franklin. Survivors include parents and several siblings.
The board of trustees adopted new entrance requirements for Illinois University. Applicants must take aptitude tests and achieve a minimum grade of C or better, with averages guiding admission. Programs will be arranged to meet student needs, and savings measures will be provided to assist applicants and parents. Non residents of Illinois will be considered for admission only as vacancies allow.
Vice President Nixon began a mission to Vienna after a stopover in Europe. He planned to assess aid for refugees flooding from Hungary into Austria, with 135000 people crossing since the past month. Nixon traveled under instructions from President Eisenhower and was set to return Sunday.
