Charles Taaka Dies at Age 70

Charles Edward Taaka carpenter died at 10 10 a m today at 330 S Second St. He was 70 years four months and 17 days old. Funeral 3 p m at Myers Opel with body at Myers Chapel after 10 a m Sunday viewings. Born August 1 1878 in Renault Illinois to Henry and Minnie Taaka. Survived by wife Kate Laney five sons Edward Paul Henry Louis Albert Arthur all of Lincoln and Mt Vernon area two daughters Marie Harvey Indianapolis Leta McKitrick Lincoln six grandchildren and two brothers Henry Maze Town and Will Mt Vernon plus a sister Mary DeWire Mt Vernon.

Boy Injured in Fall from Bike in Mt. Vernon

Ray E. Bishop, 15, of RFD 3 Mt. Vernon, sustained a slight concussion and facial injuries after a wheel came off his bicycle on south Tenth street yesterday afternoon. He also lost three teeth and suffered a nose injury and is receiving treatment at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital.

Ralph Reynolds of Nason suffered a right foot injury at the Nason mine early today. He was treated by a Mt Vernon physician.

Police report a tire and wheel were taken from a jeep parked on the Holman Motor Co. lot. The incident was reported to headquarters and police are investigating.

Jane Westbrook led the business session while Mrs McCauley read scripture. Joy Jines accompanied carols and provided piano and vocal selections. Santa Claus handed out gifts.
