An Atlas intercontinental ballistic missile launch was postponed possibly until Tuesday. Observers noted a successful static test last week and predicted another launch toward week’s end. The Atlas, about 70 feet long and 8.5 feet in diameter, uses three stages and liquid oxygen kerosene fuel with a ground-based inertial guidance system.

Man Struck By Truck East Of City, Badly Hurt
Robert Lloyd Boster of 512 Fairfield Road was seriously injured late morning when struck by a truck on state Route 15 about a half mile east of Mt. Vernon. He was rushed to Jefferson Memorial Hospital with a badly fractured arm, broken leg, and other injuries. Officers said he appeared to be crossing the highway near his home and did not see the truck, driven by avid Hawthorne, 20, of Wayne City.

Cops abducted at gunpoint by four men in Collinsville
Two Collinsville police officers Dominic Gilfre and John Gagnola were kidnapped at gunpoint by four men during a 90 minute ride. The assailants discussed killing them but relented.
