Funeral services were held today for Sam Barth, 70, of Fairfield, a wholesale grocery salesman in southern Illinois for more than 30 years. Barth died Wednesday of a heart attack. He is survived by his widow.
Mrs Letah Lizzie Holleman 64 died at 8 p m after suffering a heart attack while viewing a house fire at her son Earl Holleman s Orchardville home the blaze severely damaged the structure She was born October 29 1891 in Wayne county and married Elmer Jack Holleman in 1913 Surviving are her husband four children two daughters two brothers and two sisters with funeral plans pending word from son Ellis in Greenland USAF
The Til nois Liquor Control Commission upheld Salem mayor's revocation of Floyd B. Miner's liquor licenses for the Broadway Tavern in Salem and the Dixie Cafe in Sandoval. A Monday hearing reviewed Miner's appeal from the local revocation based on alleged sales to minors.
O A Anderson flew to St Louis today followed by Donald McLean making the same city trip this morning. Earl Outland and his son Bill returned last evening from Abilene and El Paso Texas with reports of travel and weather conditions.

Prince Rainier of Monaco arrived in the United States on a two month visit and said he is not actively seeking a wife. At 32, the prince noted a future spouse must possess many qualities. His chaplain called him a good, fine boy, not a runabout, as reporters pressed about a potential match with Americans. The prince, who served with the 36th Infantry Division in France, plans to tour the U.S. and study its natural beauty and cities.
Authorities halted a search of abandoned wells near Carlyle after six wells yielded no bodies in the case of Fillmore Young tied to the slayings of Harold and Mrs Smith near Lebanon Illinois. Young admitted killing the couple on November 27 and hinted at another man, with a preliminary hearing postponed a week as investigators plan to question three former women friends.

Stratton announced plans to reveal his future political moves on Jan. 6 in Morris. He said legislative reappointment benefits include more young people seeking Legislature and urged more women to run.

She becomes the first gal mayor since 1940, joined by Leigh Snowden as running mate and Dani ieee as another official. The American Farm Bureau Federation endorsed flexible government price supports and a soil bank plan to cut surpluses by converting part of crop land to grasses and legumes. A 434 mile segment of the Congress Street Expressway from Chicago's Loop to the western suburbs opened to traffic. The eight lane project is only 414 miles complete, causing cars to line up six blocks or more at entrances. Police plan to station more officers to ease the flow.

A former three term House member, he cites experience in education, highways, agriculture, labor and oil policy. He taught in schools, was county superintendent, works in real estate, and is active in local civic groups with a wife and six children.
A mid December cold spell blankets most of the nation with freezing temperatures across the Southeast and Gulf regions. Temperatures fall to around 30 in San Antonio and 31 in Mobile while arctic air spreads eastward. Snow flurries dot the Northeast and Appalachians as Ohio and Mississippi valleys see sharp drops and subzero readings in parts of the Midwest. Falls reach about an inch in South Bend and Syracuse.
Dorothy Park Benjamin Caruso widow and biographer of Enrico Caruso died after a long illness in Baltimore. She lived at Spring Hill Riderwood Baltimore County since 1950 and did much of her writing there. Born into a prominent New York family, she met Caruso in 1917 and married him despite objections. After his death she remarried twice but kept the Caruso name.
Colin P. Kelly III, son of World War II hero Colin Kelly, was awarded the Eagle Scout rank at a formal ceremony in Concordville Pennsylvania. The 15 year old, with 21 merit badges earned over four years, was praised by Judge William R. Toal for perseverance and integrity. He attends Westtown Friends School and may pursue West Point or the Air Force Academy after college.
