Icy Roads Cannot Slow Jefferson County Supervisors Meeting

Supervisors from all 16 townships in Jefferson County traveled icy snow drifted roads to attend the December Jefferson County Board of Supervisors meeting. The session at the courthouse began minutes behind schedule, approving monthly Purchasing Committee meetings with county officers and requiring state aid road claims be read at each meeting. The board reconvened this afternoon and expects to adjourn late Tuesday.

Christmas bonuses awarded to Greenberg Brokerage staff

Manager Jack Bennett and Illinois Missouri Indiana and Kentucky store staff were given Christmas bonus checks at the Greenberg Mercantile annual pre Christmas party in St Louis. Dale Stover Hurt When Struck Crossing County Line Road

Dale Stover, 75, of the area east of Walnut Hill, was seriously injured Saturday afternoon when struck by a car on the county line road. Oscar Riley of Dix swerved to avoid him, but the right side hit Stover, who was walking and hard of hearing. He was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Centralia with a back injury and injuries to his right leg and face.

Waist Deep Snow Remembers Past Mt Vernon Winter

Mt Vernon residents recall waist deep snow on Spring Garden Road 42 years ago as the current cold spell brings similar drifts. Bonnie and Uncle Mort Knowles recalled driving horses and mules to clear a mail path. Long icicles form during the cold snap with one reaching from a roof to near the ground on Harrison Street near the Rev Sam McCoy’s home.
