Gowler Funeral Ties Local Visitors After Mt Vernon Trip

Residents and visitors converged in Mt Vernon for the funeral of Mrs Cora Gowler. Among attendees were Mr and Mrs Lawrence Gowler Nokomis Ill Donall Lowery Bluford James Bishop Lesser and many Gowlers from Hillsboro Carlyle Macomb Michigan and Missouri. Billy Bob Badgett discharged from Jefferson Memorial Hospital after injuries from an auto crash.

The Mt. Vernon Garden Club met at 2 PM Friday December 8 at Mrs. Charles Nation's home. Mrs. E S Webb presided. Mrs. Troy Hawkins introduced Mrs. Frank Case whose program on New Ideas in Wrapping Christmas Packages highlighted color, texture, and clever touches. Exhibits earned top awards for a yew spray and a miniature snow scene with Santa. The group extended thanks to Mrs Nation for hosting on short notice due to illness.

County Board to Meet Monday

The Jefferson County Board of Supervisors will convene at the court house next Monday morning December 11 for the regular December session. Rusty Starr Joins Coast Guard From St. Louis

Carl Lester Rusty Starr 20, son of Carl Starr, enlisted December 5 and is to report in San Francisco tomorrow. He attended Southern Illinois University last year and left St. Louis for active duty. Starr is grandson of Lester E. Starr, Jefferson County Draft Board chairman and Starr Brothers head. his father served in the Navy two years and took part in seven Pacific invasion operations.
