Mt Vernon Area Social News and Travel Notes

Mrs Paul Gardner and others visited St Louis for the day while out of town mourners gathered for A W Akin's funeral. Numerous relatives and friends from California Louisiana Ohio Illinois and Michigan spent time in Mt Vernon for ceremonies travel and visiting relatives.

Court Order for License Rehearing

Virgil T. Bailey, Mt. Vernon broker, won a circuit court injunction halting state action on his broker license suspension until his rehearing motion is decided. The Department of Education and Registration had proposed a six month license suspension after a reviewing committee hearing. Bailey’s late filed rehearing was rejected as untimely. a hearing on accepting the motion is scheduled. Bailey says the injunction shields his licensed real estate business.

Word reached of a son born to Mr and Mrs Vernice Byford of Birmingham Alabama at 2 30 am weighing seven pounds. Former Vernon residents Mr and Mrs Byford are listed. Mr and Mrs John William Book of Fairfield welcomed a daughter Jeanne at Good Samaritan Hospital. A daughter named Margaret Eileen was born to Mr and Mrs Harry Charles Medier of Fairfield at Good Samaritan Hospital this morning.

Junior Woman's Club Christmas Dinner Celebrated

The Junior Woman's Club held its annual Christmas dinner at Hotel Emmerson with about 100 members and guests. Norma Lee Kelley presided as president with past presidents present. Janet Wood performed and Mrs. Merle Huntington spoke on civic issues and local history. A surprise bridal shower honored Miss Jean McPherson with a jackpot radio prize and gifts. The event featured decorated tables, musical numbers, and tributes to club founders and notable members.
