Professor E C Miller of Transylvania College was asked to recommend women students for tracing work at the H Koppers Coke Oven plant in Lorain Ohio. The company says women can do the work faster and will be paid the same as men. They also promise future graduates steady opportunities. Four years ago the plant barred women from drafting.
Lexington Kentucky February 20 Transylvania College has received another library the gift of Dr A Buck of New York who has presented about 250 volumes of medical books from ancient to modern times The donor used Transylvania's books in research for his book The Dawn of Modern Medicine and notes their value as a bridge between past and present medical knowledge.
Taxpayers with net incomes of 1000 dollars or more single or 2000 dollars or more married must file sworn returns by March 15. Include all income, dependents, and spouse earnings. Use Form 1040A for under 5000 dollars, Form 1040 for higher. Residents of Kentucky file with Elwood Hamilton in Louisville.
Single persons with net income of 21000 or more for 1919 face four per cent tax on taxable income up to 4000 plus eight per cent on the rest. Sur tax ranges from one per cent to sixty five per cent on incomes over 5000. Married filers with net income of 2000 or more must file by March 15 1920 at theCollector of Internal Revenue for their district.
