The Isabella county courthouse cornerstone opened during repairs recalling its July 28 1876 original laying. Attendees included I H Dodds I A Fancher who helped at the original Masonic ceremony.
Over twenty Isabella chapter members of the D A R joined the John Alden chapter in Midland on a June Saturday. The event featured lilac and tulip decorations, violin solos, a talk by State Regent Mrs. Holland on the national society, a Leonard da Vinci study by Miss Estabrooke, a courthouse tour, and a reception with refreshments.
The Mac Dowell club at Central Michigan Normal school presents In Old Louisiana Tuesday June 15 at 8 15 p m in the high school auditorium. Cast includes Old Ned Wilford Wilkinson Rose Laura Epanks Richard St John and many more with a chorus of MacDowell members.
Prof and Mrs Edward Harlan Webster hosted a dancing party at their Normal Ave residence Friday evening June 4 for the Central Michigan Normal Senate members and guests. Senators and companions visited verandas lit by Japanese lanterns. notable attendees included President and Mrs Warriner and Prof and Mrs Harry A Miller among others. Refreshments were served during intermission.
Curb and gutter work on Kinney street will be finished this week according to City Manager Willman plans. Drainage work man holes and catch basins on Chippewa street completed last week. Further work on Chippewa street will begin when weather permits. Three new drinking fountains on Broadway street will be installed soon replacing those now in use.
Mt Pleasant High School defeated Sacred Heart 18 to 4 in the season finale. Shumway pitched for Mt Pleasant recording eighteen strikeouts. Six runs came in the first inning and set the tone early. Theisen and Kennedy to the Academy battery, Shumway and Lee for the high school.
Seventy one pupils will graduate from the eighth grade in Clare County rural schools this year. Graduation and a field meet are set for Saturday at Lakeside pavilion in Harrison with A H Aldrich supervising the exercises and W W Gumser delivering the principal address. Roland Finch of Clare will coordinate the field meet with Harrison and Farwell superintendents assisting.
Mrs. Laverne Cole escaped serious harm when her sedan tipped in a ditch between Midland and Saginaw on M-24. A tow vehicle backing to pull the wrecked car to a garage struck her and her three children, fracturing her collar bone and causing internal injuries. Bert Isbell witnessed and assisted, moving the group to medical care in Saginaw.
Owosso authorities threaten to withhold transfer of credits for college entrance from graduates until last year's class pays a $250 debt tied to publication of the school annual. The rule would affect 1925 graduates seeking job recommendations.
Central Normal reserves defeated Gladwin High 12 to 6 in the final baseball game of the season. Dennings and Kennedy pitched well in a field made slow by mud, with nearly any hit finding safe ground in the slugging contest.
Announcement of a new shop at 120 South Main Street named Welch's Home Dairy and Bakery to be owned by Mr and Mrs C A Welch. The store undergoes renovation and will feature a new delicatessen concept. Mrs Cora O'Neil, state president of the American Legion Auxiliary, will visit for a district Legion meeting. A rummage sale by Altar Society is planned at Park Hotel annex starting Friday June 11. Also includes notices about cyclone insurance and radio parts suppliers in local ads.
The board of education elected several new teachers for the coming year. Dorothy Collins of Lansing will replace Marjorie Kenyon at the college, Harriet Vanderbush of Oberlin College was chosen for English, and Helen M. Herney, a University of Chicago graduate with experience as English teacher and principal, was named head of English. Margaret Sumner of the University of Michigan will take over French and Latin, Geraldine Brode of Wayne will head home economics.
Miss Edith Gepford and Walter Carey wed Wednesday morning at Sacred Heart church with Fr Mulvey officiating. The couple plan to live on a farm near Mt Pleasant.
Michigan State association of county clerks holds a two day meeting in Manistee June 15 and 16 with Perry Thompson Isabella County clerk presiding He serves as association president and will speak June 16 morning A banquet will cap the first day’s sessions in the convention venue.
Central Normal dropped a 4-0 game to Ypsilanti last Thursday. The following day at Orchard Lake, Central Normal lost 8-2 to St. Mary’s in a pitched battle that stretched 18 innings before the visitors secured the deciding run.
C M Waid of Ohio is selected as a judge for the Western Michigan Potato Show to be held in Greenville October 28 29 and 30. W S Whittemore secretary says Waid judged last year and notes his current role directing markets for the Ohio Farm Bureau and former connection with Michigan State College.

Lansing June 10 The department of states has placed an order for 1 100 000 automobile plates for 1927. The plates next year will have an orange background and black letters and numerals. Michigan will be spelled out instead of abbreviated. The plate will be manufactured at Jackson prison and delivery will be made November 15.
Coach Lester Barnard signs to join twin brother Chester Barnard at Kalamazoo College as head coach in baseball and basketball with Chester focusing on football and track. The Barnards will lead Kalamazoo athletic teams starting next fall, after Barnard leaves Central Normal. The twins previously starred at Great Lakes Naval, Northwestern and have six years of coaching experience.
Coach Lester Barnard ends a two year tenure at Central Normal noted for turning out teams across all sports that faced Michigan athletic programs. Football teams under Barnard achieved outstanding success with only two losses in two seasons. Prof. Tambling praised Barnard for his dedication, honesty, and care for athletic material and the school community.
Preliminary plans for Central Michigan Normal new administration building show a structure about sixty feet longer and considerably wider than the burned building last December. The library and assembly room plans are set and the architect is expected to visit soon to present further details to local school officials.
Durfee Realty Co. reported sales including The David DeVries house on Value Street to Ralph and Bertha Kni B. The O W Nash house on Fancher Avenue sold to local parties. Two shore lots at Houghton Lake were bought by Detroit parties.

Miss Kathleen Phillip, former principal and organizer of the junior high at Central Normal Training school, accepts a position in the Kalamazoo Western State Normal Training school's junior high. She has been studying at Columbia University this year.
Central Normal prepares for its second annual track meet on Friday June 11 with a large field of entrants. St Johns leads Class B in competition with Mt Pleasant and Midland high also fielding strong squads. Local standout efforts include Harold Grinnell and Maynard Allyn training at dawn and late nights as teams from Ovid Breckenridge and Chesaning bring sizable lineups.
The state administrative board let a contract for a new bridge over the Salt River crossing the trunk line M-14 near Shepherd at 18062 dollars. Construction will not require highway closure. a temporary bridge will be erected while the old structure is torn down and the new one built. Concrete approaches to the new bridge will be contracted.
Members of the Mt Pleasant Rotary Club will direct a clinic for crippled children in Mt Pleasant and Isabella county. The event is set for Friday July 2 and the general public is invited to attend with plans for examinations to be announced later.
The Michigan Supreme Court reversed a circuit court ruling and awarded Mrs. Mary M. Wiley 2500 in damages from the Pere Marquette railroad after a patrolman’s gun discharged at their Saginaw home on November 14 1922 injuring her hip. The court also reversed a verdict against John Sumner in a separate Pere Marquette case involving a broken leg from a falling tie and likely ordered a new trial.
Principal E. C. Warriner spoke at a Monday noon banquet by St. Louis business leaders honoring 25 high school students who won the Glass G championship in Central Normal's first state academic contest.

Manager Ward announces the Arthur Blackaller Company will appear each Thursday night during the summer starting June 17 at the Broadway Theatre. The program features new comedies with musical numbers, a different play weekly, and a one hour thirty minute show with a picture program at summer bargain prices. The opening play is That's My Baby with leading cast including Louise Blackaller Capitola Marshall Grace Baird and Henry Blackaller.
The Gentral Michigan Normal School will host its first vesper service during graduation week. The Y M C A and Y W C A will sponsor the event at Cathedral Woods on Sunday at 7 p.m., led by Prof. W. H. Pearce with the school male quartet and Prof. E. J. Merrill as song leader. Seniors will wear caps and gowns at the Monday reception for Pres. Warriner’s home, and continue through diplomas on Tuesday, June 22.
Dean Bertha M. Ronan and Miss Ellen Anderson entertained the Ronan Round Table for dinner at the former’s home Saturday evening. Sixteen members attended. Tables were decorated with seasonal flowers. Guests included Miss Rose Hogue Mrs Christine Vowles and Miss Gaynell Emery.
Los Angeles story reports MGM weighing encores for films with applause by providing two prints per theater one for the regular projector and a second encore machine kept running behind closed doors. Patrons cue repeats by applause the encore plays while the regular projector is paused, then the regular screen resumes after the sequence.
More than five hundred attended the county eighth grade exercises at Mt. Pleasant High School on Saturday morning. Two hundred fifty one diplomas were awarded as Prof. F. Robinson delivered the commencement address. John McCarthy of Edmore won the state fair boys school contest with Hubbard Kreier as alternate. Mary Schafer of Weidman had the top county average at eighty eight percent, Celestine Andres and Vera M. Gross tied for second at eighty seven. Diploma recipients include Emma Fike Dorothy Lynch Norris Johnston Elsie Mcdames Peter Tomasik Wilson Sanborn Muriel Pelton Ford Hales Marie Wilt Marie McNerney Margaret Wilt Joseph Feldesi Lena Feldesi and others.
The Summer Session Of Training School opens Monday June 28 and runs five weeks until July 30. Classes meet from eight to eleven in the morning with rooms arranged for grades from kindergarten to the eighth.
