The Bay View house a major northern Michigan hotel and resort complex was completely destroyed by fire early Sunday after closing for the season. The blaze also consumed the Bay View barber shop and Lucille cottage. No cause was announced and insurance stood at 50 000 with losses estimated at 150 000. The fire department blocked the spread to 500 cottages and adjacent university buildings. The hotel will be rebuilt and was opened in 1876 by the Bay View association.

I A Fancher of Pleasant is observed to celebrate his 96th birthday. Born in New York state, he moved to the county in 1863 and has held many city and county offices with honor. He practiced law into advancing age and was regarded as the dean of lawyers in this area.
In Chicago during a bank style holdup a bandit fled with 4556 and was shot dead by Babe Cobb 25 assistant manager of Meg Vicker s Big Loop theater who had trained for years after a similar events a year earlier Cobb fired three shots into the back of the bandit s head as he fled from the cashier s room Cobb identified the man who wore expensive new clothes and a J and tattoo on his right arm and is believed to be the same robber who hit the city s humorous theater offices.
Martin Cohn owner of the Study Club cabaret faces a habeas corpus hearing before Judge Dewitt H. Merriam in Detroit after the September 20 fire that killed 22. Cohn remains free on a 25 000 dollar bond as investigators proceed. Assistant prosecutor Duncan C. McCrea will not seek a postponement and would not disclose any potential criminal case findings.
Central State Teachers college opened the season with a 28 to 7 victory over Detroit Tech at the college field. Tellar Kelly Robbins and Hickman scored for Central State, while Bader of Detroit stopped a Central State drive with a four yard run after an interception. Coach Nowack used nearly every player as the Bearcats dominated the first half and contained Detroit in the final quarters.
North Carolina begins its third attempt to try 13 men and 3 women for the killing of Gastonia Chief of Police Aderholt. The state contends avowed communists conspired to cause the death and that labor leaders and activities posed a public menace.
Charles E Hagen died in Lansing after a six week illness caused by stomach cancer. A longtime merchant in Owosso, he retired in 1926 and moved to Lansing. Survived by wife Amy M Hagen a son Charles F E Jr and a daughter from his first marriage. Funeral services in Lansing followed by burial in Riverside cemetery Owosso.
Mr and Mrs George Wetherbee of Mt Pleasant and Mr Clarence Sowards of Virginia were seriously hurt when their cars collided at Hogin M 20 two miles east of here Sunday night at about 1030. Wetherbee fractured shoulder several broken ribs and severe facial cuts Weatherbee lacerations and severed arteries Sowards unconscious at Brandsetter hospital. The couple were returning from the oil fields.

Mt Pleasant High School upset Lansing Central 20 to 9 on the Lansing field. Jake Ferris powered the victory with strong runs and a touchdown, while McClintie and Spalsbury contributed key plays to outmaneuver the favored Big Reds despite injuries.
Winnipeg dispatch reports Dominion explorer W N Sherlock stating belief the McAlpine party of eight explorers geologists and pilots may be frozen in somewhere in the Northwest Territory and alive or dead may be revealed by aerial search. Albion set to build two municipal ice skating rinks at Victory Park. Construction has begun with plans to link the rink to nearby Miachiell pitch and support local recreation offerings.
