President Hoover is aiding the Senate investigation into the 1987 disarmament meeting fallout. Warren M. Piggott, a Bay City furniture dealer with ties to Sag-inaw Lansing and Toledo, was convicted in federal court of using the mails to defraud after a two hour verdict. Indicted May 17 he was arrested in Canada. he pleaded guilty at arraignment and remained jailed on 25,000 bail. He received a five year prison term after a nearly three week trial with about 60 witnesses. In a separate item U C D Killian, formerly an instructor at Central State Teachers College, has joined the University of Texas at Austin as a non teaching scholar and is working toward his doctoral degree.

In Wellington Texas, after eight inches of rain in three days, residents found two to four inch catfish on a road far from any stream. Some attribute the find to a tornado lifting fish, others to a mysterious drop during the downpour. Authorities offer no conclusive explanation.
Earle Francis Peacox a 21 year old radio expert escaped the electric chair but faces 20 years to life in prison for the murder of his wife Dorothy. A nine day trial with over 60 witnesses led to second degree murder verdict and a life range sentence by Supreme Court Justice Harold S. Tompkins.
In Paris a group of spiritualists led by baker Charles Hardy barricaded a Fontenay-sous-Bois bakery, fearing France’s downfall. Hardy’s daughter Charlotte, 27, claims visions from spirits predicting destruction, inspiring 20 followers from diversely skilled trades to prepare for catastrophe.
St Louis workers celebrate the massive machine Big Pete assigned to dig a mile long, 50 foot deep River Des Peres sewage canal in Forest Park. Pete dumps nine tons of dirt every 90 seconds, moving 3 600 tons in ten hours, with 83 operators and 47 laborers replacing 7 000 men.
Premier J Ramsay MacDonald and his daughter Ishbel sailed from Southampton aboard the Berengaria for a peace mission to the United States. The Premier sent a final message to the London Daily Mercury expressing hope for a practical expression of world peace.
Grand Rapids Sept 28 Judge M L Dunham ruled that without a savings clause in the Cuthbertson liquor law bill violators must be charged under the old liquor law not yet tried Floyd Lowell and wife Mary Lowelligg are named in the case and the ruling may be appealed by Prosecuting Attorney Bartel J Jonkman to the state supreme court Dozen violators in the county could be affected by the decision

Paris Sept 28 UP a dirties heatless coach for travel in hot weather has been tested on a French railway. Reporters engineers and officials rode the train and praised its artificial cooling system. St Mary's academy of Saginaw overpower Sacred Heart in Island Park with a 12 to 0 victory. In a head on collision near Petoskey Michigan two Pere Marquette freight crewmen died and five were injured. Engineers Charles Markham and Henry Defure both from Traverse City died beneath their overturned locomotive as fire followed the wreck. The second crew survived injuries unknown at the time.
