John Ringling acquires five circuses from the American Circus Corporation, uniting the Sells-Floto John Johnson Hagenbach Wallace Sparks and A. G. Barnes shows under his control. The combined shows employ about 5,000 people and will keep their existing names.
East Lansing Michigan State College announced a year end surplus of 98335 dollars and 31 cents for the fiscal year ending June 30 The figures come from an audit of the college books conducted by E T Larson company of Lansing and released today through the college publications office.

Chinese sources estimate more than 100 casualties after a five hour border fight near Manchuria Monday night involving about 1500 Soviet troops. Soviet planes bombed Prognatchnaya at seven am. Reports say massed forces and heavy cannonading along the Manchurian frontier.
Seven people were injured when John Philip Sousa's special train derailed 13 miles southwest of Wallenburg Col yesterday afternoon. Sousa escaped with a slight shaking up and called it a miracle that more people were not killed. The derailment was caused by an undetermined fault as the Denver and Rio Grande train left the track at Capps en route to Pueblo Col.
