Surprise flow in Traverse causes oil well fire
Oil field workers and Mt. Pleasant fire department extinguished a blaze at the Grubb lease in Chippewa township after gas and oil erupted from the Traverse sand at 6 a.m. The derrick housing and engine house burned, a tool dresser was burned, and the drillers were forced from the derrick. This is the second major oil well fire in the Mt. Pleasant field, with a prior blaze on the Weidman lease in Chippewa township about a year ago.
