Holdings $18 000 Pending Ruling In Corn Borer Case
Lansing Mich May 17 The department of agriculture holds about 18 000 to 19 000 collected from farmers whose land was plowed under as authorized by the 1927 corn borer act pending a decision on its constitutionality. The act let the department burn or plow under stubble and charge the farmer. In Branch County a farmer refused to pay and a judgment was obtained with seizure of farm implements and stock. The case is under advisement and may go to the state supreme court.
