Peking May 8 dispatches report Japan seized the Tsingtao Tsinan railway at Shanting and moved toward Peking. Nationalists defend Tsinan as 3,000 Japanese troops assault Chinese barracks and threaten evacuation. Tokio orders a third expedition of 18,000 men to China.
The marriage of Patsy Caterina and Laura Luella Jone took place this morning at the county clerk's office. Justice of the Peace M Ward performed the ceremony with Milo and Ruth Jones, siblings of the bride, as witnesses. The Caterinas plan to open a restaurant in Clare after the ceremony.
On Broadway and Main Street at a red light, Warner was cited for a left turn and fined $1 plus costs. Eric Torpey faced charges before Justice H A Grant and was fined $2 plus costs.
Samuel Lirones a local businessman recalls his seven year old memories in Kaltazia Greece when a quake struck his home town. He describes fleeing outdoors as the fence quivered and homes were wrecked after a strong series of shocks that destroyed Corinth and damaged ports.
Monsignor Patrick McGivney of Bridgeport Connecticut, national chaplain of the Knights of Columbus in the United States, died after paralysis struck him several days ago. He passed shortly after 3:00 am in an American hospital.
A twelve member jury in Albany begins deliberations on Florence Knapp's charge of betraying trust while aiming for New York’s highest office. The panel, drawn from electors who supported Knapp, was instructed by Supreme Court Justice Gallaghan to reach a verdict of guilty or not guilty.
In Lansing Michigan authorities say Joseph Perrin known as the Wolverine bandit faces a possible life sentence after a fourth felony conviction. Perrin previously robbed a Soo Line station in Gladwin and a state bank in Republic then escaped from Ionia and was captured in Duluth. If tried and convicted in Minnesota on bank robbery charges and returned to Michigan for prison breaking, he would face mandatory life imprisonment for four felonies.
Henry Ford returning on the Majestic with Mrs. Ford says the United States will keep thriving as current business conditions remain strong. He notes a million Ford orders and plans to boost production, cites good English conditions, and comments on aviation topics and Lindbergh.
Minnesota and Wisconsin conservation officials will meet Michigan leaders in Lansing on Thursday to discuss reforestation. A 15 member Minnesota delegation and Wisconsin directors will attend alongside Michigan experts from the state college and University of Michigan.

In Detroit on May 8 United States district attorney John R. Watkins reorganized his staff with the resignation of N. Bax ter and the appointment of Gregory Frederick to the vacancy. Baxter had served as chief associate for four years and Frederick has held various district attorney department posts since 1925.
Detroit May 8 federal narcotic agents seized the largest quantity of marijuana here since last year in a raid on a dwelling. They found a trunk full of the narcotic and arrested 16 year old Mexican girl Josephine Alveeria who confessed to selling marijuana in cigarette form. She said her father had returned to Mexico due to ill wealth and sent her the trunk to sell.
In Detroit on May 8 a second child, Virginia Marcezinouski, vanished from her home after five year old Wright William Weeks was found drowned in the Rouge River. Police traced a suspect, Peter Lemus, a 28 year old Mexican, identified by the boy's father as seen near the Weeks home. Lemus was questioned as authorities pursued a lead in the case.
Scotland Yard asked Prince Carol of Romania to curtail his England trip. A high official visited Carol at Godstone Surrey to imply he should return to the continent due to his alleged involvement in a campaign to seize power in Romania. No formal notice was given.
German aviatrix Yauiin Thea Rasche announced plans to start a round trip between New York and Germany in June. She will fly a Stinson-Detroit monoplane accompanied by Ulrich Koenenann with German war ace Jirnest iddevt aboard the third seat.

Japanese Ambassador Matsudaira told Secretary Kellogg the Shantung troop movements protect lives and property and will be withdrawn when the emergency ends. He presented a Tokio promise from April 18 and noted looting in Tsiwan along with a list of Japanese dead and wounded.

A board of inquiry began in New York into the sinking of the Navesty dredge after a collision off Clifton. Eighteen crew members are dead or missing, twenty nine saved, with divers to search for bodies. A benefit party is planned at Sacred Heart Hall Wednesday evening.
