In Michi on Sunday Charles Barto 22 drove an automobile into the path of a Pere Marquette train on the main street. His mother Mrs John Barto 50 and the driver died. Four others were injured. Charles Barto Jr age 1 escaped with minor injuries. The family had been returning from a visit in Greenville and the crash occurred when the driver’s view was obscured by a grain elevator and several sheds.

Three Injured In Train Crash Near Elwell
Mrs. Roy Beard 48 was seriously hurt when the car she rode in with her husband and seven year old son Kenneth was struck by a Pere Marquette freight train two miles west of Elwell. The beard family were en route to church services when the collision occurred. Mrs. Beard suffered a fractured pelvis and severe facial and arm injuries. Mr Beard was lacerated on the legs face and arms. Kenneth sustained facial injuries not serious. They were taken to Alma hospital. the auto was dragged about 30 yards and wrecked.

Regulations clarified by Lansing permit spearing or dip netting suckers in the Chippewa River below Mt. Pleasant city east boundary and in the Big Salt and Little Salt rivers.
