Michigan residents prepare for a statewide vote on the death penalty after Governor Brucker signs the bill. The measure goes to Secretary Fitzgerald for April ballot placement alongside constitutional amendments on highway bonds airplane landing fields and other topics.
In Los Angeles oil worker H. S. Spud Manning, 22, describes a record parachute jump from 16 665 feet after a 265 foot fall to 1400 feet before release. He traveled near 200 mph head first, then opened a tense chute and landed in an orange tree. He vows to try again.
President Hoover may tour the country by a northern route to California and return by the south, visiting about half the states. A brief vacation and fishing trip to Florida or Georgia’s Sapello Island or Long Key is discussed, with Long Key previously hosting Hoover in 1930 aboard Jeremiah Millbank’s yacht.
Isabella county sends nine delegates to the Republican state convention opening in Kalamazoo Friday morning. Crude supply comes mainly from Isabella Midland field with some direct shipments and tanker transfers from Bay City. The plant also handles Mid-Continent crude and plans to ship gasoline with high anti-knock quality branded as Pure Oil Ethyl.

Wayne County Republican leader John Gillespie aims to bring 334 delegates to the state convention in Kalamazoo tomorrow.
