Washington March 1 U P Harry Sinclair an indicted oil magnate advanced 260 000 in government bonds to help pay off the 1921 Republican deficit Hays said he later returned 100 000 of that sum to Sinclair The remaining 100 000 was Sinclair personal campaign money Hays testified he never heard of Continental Trading Co until the Teapot Dome probe and no bond certificate numbers were kept The hearing also heard Wallace say William Thompson loaned 150 000 to the 1920 Republican convention in two installments plus 100 000 and Thompson was ill in Florida preventing appearance.

Union Farmer Dies After Route 27 Crash Near Mt Pleasant
Joseph Ege of Union township died about 7 PM after being struck by a car while crossing US 27 near his son Anthony Ege’s home four miles north of Mt Pleasant. The accident involved Basil Bring of Clare driving south and a Rosebush truck driven by George Johnson, with Bring’s car veering into the ditch and hitting Ege as he crossed. Ege was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed, with funeral services set for Sacred Heart church Mt Pleasant and burial in Galavery cemetery.
