Three Bandits Captured in Chippewa Indian Treaty Suit
The Chippewa bands of Saginaw Salt River and Swan Creek sue the federal government for more than three million dollars under an 1855 treaty to disband Michigan tribes and grant land in Isabella County. The suit follows the ousting of tribal chief Elliot Collins and election of Elijah Elk. The case involves damages for a fire destroyed saw mill and timing of legal representation in Washington. A May 28 1930 council at Mt Pleasant Michigan saw Elijah Elk elected temporary chairman and Daniel Bennett acting as secretary. Representatives from Kalamazoo and Romeo attended.

An explosion and fire at three Walkerville plants caused about 250000 in damage. One worker, Edward Croucher, 45, was fatally burned. more than 200 others faced danger, including 25 women. Croucher died after a torch ignited escaping gas and oxygen tanks exploded.
