Isabella county reports another fast flowing gas well as the Keeler Mitchell No 2 in Broomfield township yields over 2,000,000 cubic feet. Drillers are cautious awaiting a possible blowout while comparing it to the nearby Keeler Mitchell No 1, both showing similar gas output and rock levels.
Mayor Charles Bowles appointed Joseph S. Stringham former city research engineer as commissioner of public works to replace John J. Gillespie. Gillespie, a central Bowles ally in the recall battle, resigned amid criticism of the department.
The office of Harry T. Brundige a St. Louis Star reporter was broken into and papers ransacked during the night. Brundige had appeared before a Cook County grand jury in Chicago for questioning about charges that some Chicago journalists were involved in racketeering.
Big Rapids dedicates its new 77 acre city airport with Governor Green as keynote speaker. More than 100 planes enter events as Major Douglass Bennett Roben and Lieut Daniel George Hood are honored after wartime losses. The dedication features stunt contests and a $750 prize pool, including a first Michigan outside loop event.

Mrs Ivank Baker of seven miles west of town and her infant son were seriously injured when their car collided with a vehicle driven by Arthur Swan at the Palmer and North College street intersection. Mrs Baker suffered deep scalp wounds and body bruises. the boy sustained lacerations. Both were taken to Brandstetter hospital and later reported improved but in serious condition. Swan and his passengers escaped injuries.
Governor Fred W. Green criticizes Detroit city politics for hampering police and courts in fighting crime and vice. He says Detroit needs capable leaders and statewide support to solve its problems after the Jerry Buckley murder and gangland challenge.

Samuel Meyers, 89, an employee at the REO plant, was arrested by state police in Lansing on extortion charges for threatening to kill Richard H. Scott and his family unless $15 was paid. Rain today gave relief to forests burning in scattered oil field areas aiding fire wardens. Fires in Sections 1 and 6 and Broomfield township burned large tracts, with about 75 acres burned in Wise township. Fire crews laid fire lines but farm buildings faced danger and game cover suffered damage.
Mt Pleasant Dow Chemical will begin installing two new boilers at its plant to supply power for the recently completed power system. The facility runs a 750 horsepower steam engine powering generators for all processes. Plant superintendent E L Winslow notes demand for potassium bromide, the company’s main product, remains strong with year over year gains.

Be H Walrath, formerly of Ithaca, has taken over the manager ship of Isabella County Farmer's Grain company with an option to purchase. He has owned and managed grain elevators in Michigan for years and comes from Ithaca where he was an elevator manager for two years. Howard Renwick, who has managed the elevator for three years, will continue his services. Walrath plans to decrease service by adding new grain machinery to equip the elevator with state class facilities. changes to be completed in about two weeks. Walrath and his family will live at 510 Pine Street.
Cottage Grove Wisconsin July 26 firemen chased a blaze for three miles to reach a truck driven by Duke Wagner. A farmer saw the vines smoldering as the truck passed and alerted the fire crew. The fire caught Wagner when he complied with a stop sign and he was burned.
