The secretary of the Michigan Safety Council announces over 600000 vehicles were inspected for brakes lights and other safety features during a state wide drive. A second check is desired next fall with hopes for annual inspections nationwide.
In a Lansing area city officials counted 15 gasoline and oil signs near a railroad track. Officials consider a rule banning signs within 50 to 100 feet of rails and outlawing blinking red Stop signs as part of highway safety powers.

Cape May July 17 Uncle Jimmy Clark a Civil War veteran protests the state motor vehicle department for denying renewal of his driving license at age ninety claiming superior sight and hearing. He taunts officials offering to prove his alertness by killing a quail with each shot and even jokes about showing President Hoover how to catch buses.

Cleveland editor Louis B. Seltzer and chief editorial writer Carleton Matson were found guilty of contempt by Common Pleas Judge Frederick Walther. Each was fined $500 and sentenced to 80 days in jail with bond set at $1,000 pending appeals, for editorials criticizing the injunction in the Thistledown Racetrack case.

The St. Louis Robin monoplane by Dale Jackson and Forest O Bride reached 100 consecutive hours in a 150 hour test with flights to nearby Mississippi Valley towns. The Missouri Robin sister ship, piloted by Joseph Hammer and E L Sloninger, took off on a similar endurance test.
Michigan Governor Fred W. Green survives two plane mishaps in two days. After a Kalamazoo landing on a race track obstruction and a forced landing near Lansing at Midway Airport, Green jokes he will continue flying and suggests the state supply a plane instead of a car.
Westfield Mass July 17 Walter Morris has graduated from the Normal Training School here becoming the 11th family member to receive a diploma. Ten of his brothers and sisters previously had graduated from the same institution.
Herbert Lyons aged 88 and Helen Lyons 33 were arrested by Sheriff Andrew Schertel and Deputy Baumgartner for abandoning an 86 hour old baby girl in a farm yard near Weidman. The couple from Sherman township denied knowledge but confessed after viewing the infant’s clothing. they are jailed in Isabella county awaiting prosecution.
The Stratford Players bring two summer productions to Central Auditorium July 17 and 18 Julius Caesar and Macbeth. They have staged for audiences in Lansing Grand Rapids and Detroit. Professor I A Beddow recalls seeing them in Stratford England and notes New Brooms will be repeated July 18 afternoon under his direction. Frank Craven wrote New Brooms and The Tirsk Year.
