Construction has begun on a 55 000 barrel steel oil storage tank near the Chippewa River two miles east on M 20. When finished it will be 117 feet in diameter and 29 feet high, built for Pure Oil. Foreman O Mustian of Chicago Bridge Iron Works leads the project, with steels fabricated in Greenville Pennsylvania. The tank signals a planned six inch pipeline from Mt Pleasant to Bay City to shift shipping from rail to water. Local refineries on the Great Lakes and water transport drive the move.
In Detroit in 1848 the first numbered inmate was John Marsh serving life for homicide. Yesterday the 25 000th arrived, Herbert Minton, sentenced for five to 15 years on a statutory offense, highlighting a milestone in prison admissions.

Culver City California July 10 The Angeleno biplane piloted by Loren Mendell and Pete Reinhart neared the 200 hour mark in a nonstop endurance flight as 10 000 spectators watched. They held the week-old record at 175 hours and aimed to push toward 400 hours if weather allowed.
American aviators Roger Q Williams and Louis A Yancey left Santander Spain for Rome aboard the Pathfinder after an overnight stop and fuel woes. They planned a Spain to Marseille to Rome leg and expected a seven hour flight to Rome. Yancey thanked the U S Weather Bureau and coast guard for supporting the trans Atlantic effort.
Detroit July 10 1930 The 11 year old crippled girl Anna Mae Bunch was fatally wounded when caught in a running gun battle between Patrolman Jackson Wilson and bandit Joe Casano. The autopsy showed the bullet came from Wilsons .32 caliber automatic as he tried to capture Casano near her home.
Six Michigan state police city agents and local officers raided nine places in Alpena last night. Eleven liquor law violators were arrested and jailed. By 2 a.m. they were moved to Bay City jail for arraignment before United States Commissioner Frank Quinn. Names include Delia Carr Albert Moulds Emma G Klee Ernest Dupuis Louis Szervach James Bonner and Henry Le Fevre.
Virgil Davis, operator, suffered severe burns after touching a live wire while attempting a transformer switch in the Broadway theatre projection room. The accident forced a temporary closure and the theater will reopen with Al Jolson in The Singing Fool for an extra night tonight and continues through tomorrow and Friday.
Williams, speaking to United Press, said the Pathfinder would reach Europe without landing to refuel after being 70 gallons short of the estimated needed for the over water flight. He stated the crew believed they could land easily and likely set a new over water record.
After a year touring Europe the Fisk Jubilee Singers return to the United States to give a concert at Central State Teachers College Friday July 12 at 8 15 p m. The trio of Fisk University graduates will sing Negro spirituals and plantation songs noted as original American folk music. The group is the third generation of this famed ensemble formed after the college founded in 1865 by Professor George L White.
