Mrs Margit Heggi of Nemesded, Hungary, is described as age 136 and still healthy with a long history of cooking for locals. She hosts Sunday gatherings under the trees to recount old days and says she has never spent a day in bed for two decades. Her husband died 40 years ago. she plans to live ten more years in Nemesded.
London July 6. The Scotch appear to have a strong hold on the British premiership. J Ramsay McDonald is the fifth prime minister from Scotland in thirty years. The others were Rosebery Campbell Bannerman Balfour and Bonar Law. During the same period the Welsh had one premier Lloyd George and the English two Salisbury and Baldwin.
In Seattle a unidentified woman pays Mrs. Evelyn Ford weekly for forty chickens her husband took from the Ford home twenty years ago. A mysterious letter from an old man asks for payment so the man “might rest better” and the weekly letters bring one to three dollars to the Ford household.
Tulsa July 6 A major energy consortium plans to build a pipeline and supply natural gas to Chicago from the Texas panhandle. The Texas company Empire Oil Phillips Petroleum and Columbian Carbon form the Texas Empire Pipeling company with a 12 inch line from Cushing Oklahoma to Chicago. Seven gas lines tap the Texas panhandle area, the largest gas field region.
Washington July 6. Progress toward a Canada United States St Lawrence waterway deal is halted by tariff disputes. Canadian opinion opposes Hawkey Smoot schedules, risking indefinite postponement of the project. Senate action and domestic policy limit US commitment while Ontario Quebec jurisdiction disputes complicate river control.
Mobile July 6. Charles Shorty Wilson 42 claims 388 years as a newsboy in his profession. He says he sold helpers at the Jersey City ferry landing during Sharkey Corbett bout and sold papers at Madison Square Garden when Stanford White was killed. He sold in Washington during McKinley assassination and has covered nearly every major event. He cries Hey Got it all and continues selling at a Mobile corner for the Mobile Press.
Lansing July 6 U P Governor Green asked Pardons Commissioner Arthur Woods to list all convictions under the habitual criminal code as he weighs commuting life terms for liquor law violators. Seven inmates were convicted under the original code including Fred Palm the first convict and Mrs Etta Miller the first woman sentenced. both reside in Michigan.
More than 3,000 women business leaders are expected at the national convention of Business and Professional Women's clubs in Mackinac Island Michigan opening a week of sessions. Miss Lena Madesin Phillips will preside with hostesses Kathryn Tuomy and the Michigan federation. Governor Fred W. Green will welcome delegates Tuesday night.
Clarendon Arkansas veteran railroadman Uncle Bud Smith celebrates 47 years with a 50 mile line from Helena to Clarendon now part of Missouri Pacific. He started as a fireman at 21 and rose to engineer, logging 17 250 days and about 167 000 miles. He says the whistle’s steam could circumnavigate the world.
The Untin Bowler halted at Great Whale on Hudson Bay as crew await dawn and better weather for a 600 mile hop to Port Burwell on the Chicago to Berlin route via Greenland and Poland. Signals reported the plane in flight only 1 hour 40 minutes that morning before bad conditions forced a return.

Pilots Roy L. Mitchell and Byron K. Newcomb set a new world record for refueled flights in Cleveland, landing at 12 39 50 after 174 hours 0 minutes 59 seconds aloft. They broke the Fort Worth 172 hour 32 minute 1 second mark, amid a crowded scene as police held back thousands. Both men expressed relief and a desire to sleep after the grueling flight.
Mianida July 6. A gold discovery on the Angat river headwaters about 30 miles from Manila reports at least 20 veins of pay dirt. Engineer George Cushing says boulders yield $7 to $10 per ton and the strike is the tidiest yet found in the Philippines with potential dividends.
Jackson July 6 24 year old minister's son J Howard Shorney confessed in writing to beating his wife to death with a stove poker as they prepared to take a picnic with their 15 month old infant. He claimed ongoing disputes after she admitted she was pregnant by another man. He said he would waive examination and plead guilty when brought before circuit judge Parkinson.
Berlin reports that before lake dwellers arose around Lake Constance, humans inhabited the countryside. Director Reinerth of the Prehistoric Research Institute in Tübingen says settlements date back as far as 30 000 years ago with earlier dry land homes and tools found along the shore and inland. Princess Elizabeth joins the Children’s League of Peace Union in London.
