Hammond dies in electric chair after murder conviction

Former Logal Boy Drowned in Hart Lake
Maurice Laffler age 17 son of Mr and Mrs Harry Laffler now of St Johns but formerly Mt Pleasant was drowned Monday night in Hart Lake Michigan. His friend Leonard Handy 20 also drowned and neither body recovered. They were seen last in a canoe around 5 pm Monday. The canoe was found Tuesday morning near the dam on Halt Lake. Officers dynamited the lake Thursday to aid in recovery. Maurice a triplet with twin sisters Phyllis and Clarice born in Hart 17 years ago, graduated Junior High in Mt Pleasant and would have been a high school freshman next year. He was a noted athlete in a recent Junior High track meet. The Laffler family, well known in Mt Pleasant, mourns his death. Maurice’s father Harry Laffler ran a barber shop in the basement of the Commercial block for several years.
