Flint officials of the Fisher Body corporation plan to reopen the plant Monday after an 11 day wage dispute with 3000 to 4000 workers. A mass meeting and a Sunday picnic were planned as talks proceed, with leaders claiming wage cuts of 40 to 50 percent. company officials cite changes to piecework readjustments.
John and Kenneth Hunter land City of Chicago at Sky Harbor after a 23 day nonstop flight covering 558 hours 40 minutes 30 seconds. The brothers hope to defend their record as rivals vow to challenge within a week and others plan similar attempts.
Kenneth Kelly ex president of the student council and holder of 18 varsity letters at Central State Teachers college married Miss Vera Hendrick secretary to Registrar Co C Barnes at the Methodist parsonage. Attendants were Mr and Mrs George Hackett. The couple plans a brief honeymoon in the Upper Peninsula and return to Central State where Kelly will coach and teach.
President Hoover called several Republican senatorial leaders to his Rapidan camp for the weekend to discuss plans including possible replacement of Claudius Huston as Republican National Committee chairman. Senator Fess and others were expected, with a London naval treaty ratification aim noted.
The five story frame house on Codwise Avenue in New Brunswick New Jersey, Joyce Kilmer birthplace, was dedicated as a national shrine in memory. The ceremony was led by the American Legion, honoring Kilmer the author of Trees who fell in action in 1918.
Washington July 6 Administration leaders express confidence of Senate action on the London Treaty in a summer special session. Hoover calls the session as White House pressure mounts while Stimson defends the pact against a few Senate objections amid primary election strains.
Central State campus showed unusual quiet as students left for a three day break from Thursday night to Monday morning. Most summer students returned home for the weekend and many offices were understaffed. A few tennis players used the courts, and classes resume Monday at 7 o clock.
The Southern Cross, cap tains Kingsford Smith and crew, completes the world flight ending at Oakland airport after a transatlantic leg from New York. Kingsford Smith plans a San Francisco stop then Santa Maria before handing the plane to G Allen Hancock. He aims to depart California for New York and sail to Australia via England, with marriage to Mary Powell slated for late September. The crew, including Capt John Saul, will tour the United States before their final voyage home.
Mrs. George West, 45, died at her Leaton area home after months of illness. Survived by husband and seven children Elinor Marguerite Dale Donald Edgar William at home Darrold in Grand Rapids. Sisters from Detroit and Lansing to arrive. Funeral at Sacred Heart Church Monday at 10.

Franco Adams a prominent Michigan writer died at her Mason home at age 76. She authored a 980 page pioneer history of Ingham County and helped organize the Michigan branch of the American Legion Auxiliary. She wrote the ritual adopted by Michigan Auxiliary.
In Sarnia Ontario, an Imperial Oil coke still blast killed Reginald Conner 37 and Thomas W. Gilbert 44. Five others were burned, with Clarence Levitt 35 and William Huggins 41 seriously hurt. Others named were William Johnson John Kat and Eve Harosky with lesser injuries.
United Press reports show traffic deaths far higher than fireworks fatalities on the Fourth. Total fatalities include 60 traffic deaths and 2 airplane deaths nationwide, with firework deaths at 9. Cities like Albany Chicago Buffalo Denver Detroit Harrisburg Indianapolis Los Angeles reported notable totals.
J B Kingsland a Pure Oil employee sustained a fractured shoulder when his car collided with a heavier vehicle at the M-20 and M oy tires intersection east of Mt Pleasant. His car was practically wrecked while the other vehicle suffered minor damage. Continued on page 3.
President Hoover approved a massive rivers and harbors appropriation totaling over $120 million, promising to start work soon. The act authorizes government control of the Erie and Oswego canals as barge canals, funds dredging to create six and nine foot channels, and limits Great Lakes water diversion after 1938. It aims to spur employment and improve national waterways and distribution.
A survey recorded no serious accidents or fireworks injuries on the Fourth. An auto wreck near Beal City caused no injuries, and other traffic incidents were minor. A suspect described as a master thief is blamed for two Long Island jewel thefts totaling about 26 000 dollars. Police say one break in at Brookville during a ball saw 20 000 dollars in jewels stolen from the Blackwell home. a thief bypassed a burglar alarm. Earlier 6 000 dollars in jewels were taken from George Sloan’s Glen Head estate using the same method.
George Stathakis Buffalo chef rode a giant barrel over Niagara Falls at 2 30 p m in full view of hundreds. The barrel plunged into the river and swerved toward the Canadian shore before striking a barge snagged in rocks.
London July 6 Miss Wini Fred Brown piloting an Avro Avian won the Kings Cup today in a race against 88 other aircraft. Mr 3 Butler piloting a De Havilland Puss Moth finished among the entrants.
At Lansing July 5, reports indicate a 1930 governor contest will form this week as Welsh or Groesbeck announce against Wilbur M. Brucker. Haggerty may back Groesbeck or run himself, while Green’s third term bid remains unlikely. Treasurer candidate Hoyt Woodman joins the scene with Frank McKay backing retirement.
George Clark of Mt. Pleasant named managing editor of Central State Life during summer session. News editor duties go to Pare M. Hill with changes among staff including Merle Abbott as city news editor and Isabel Battle in charge of girls athletics publicity. Other editors include Ruth Berry society editor and Hugo Martin as editorial writer with Clover Woodman as exchange editor.
Promoter E S Hammond announces July 15 at the fair grounds a 86 round card led by Johnny Bangert of Bay City against Dave Jackson from the west coast in his first Wolverine state appearance. Detroit promoters will attend hoping for big purses if Jackson proves as highly rated. A pilot participating in the liberation flight from the Rhineland died when his balloon crashed near Cologne. Six balloons and 67 aircraft took part in the observance of the French evacuation.

A champion Guernsey bull on the Brooklyn Staten Island ferry Nassau went berserk chasing a truck driver and the ferry’s first mate. It leaped through a glass window into Upper Bay and vanished. Police boats searched for hours but found no sign of the animal.
