Detroit dated January 27 reports a blanket indictment by a special grand jury charging six men and one woman in the death of radio commentator Gerald E. Buckley. Named defendants include Angelo Livecchi Ted Pizzino Joe Bommarito and Pete Licavoli with two unnamed defendants listed as Mary Stee John Doa and Richard Roe. Buckley was shot July 23 in the La Salle hotel lobby near police headquarters. The indictment allows immediate trial for Pizzino Bommarito and Livecchi on murder charges. Licavoli remains a fugitive.
The old St. Patrick's Catholic church in Portland used as a parish hall was totally destroyed by a morning fire at 2 o'clock. Loss estimated at 6000 dollars, partly insured. The blaze, spotted by the town marshal, threatened the entire church complex including the new church, school, and Father William O'Rourke's residence.
