New York Jan 24 U P A dramatic sea rescue unfolds as Captain George Friedoff of the United States liner Americas brings 32 crew from the abandoned Italian freighter Florida to New York after a night in a full gale 700 miles off the Virginia Capes. The Florida laden with nine pitch from Beaumont Texas on route to Italy since Jan 10 is likely lost. The Americas saved 82 lives and saw the Dannedaike tanker, 100 miles east of the Virginia Capes, limp into port after temporary repairs.
