Isabella county records show 188 deaths in 1930 down from 255 in 1929 while births fell to 382 from 422. Marriages rose to 172, divorces up to 45 from 34, with health programs credited for stabilizing population despite economic lows.
Governor Brucker states the Michigan deficit will exceed Green’s $4.69 million forecast and may reach at least $6.25 million. He also notes possibly higher amounts and urges a two year deficit plan plus an itemized audit by the finance committee.
Rogers City high school defeated St. Anne's of Alpena 22 to 19 in a local basketball game last night. The win boosts Rogers City's season outlook and adds a finish to a tight scoreline in Alpena.
Three railway stations in Buenos Aires were bombed today. Initial reports cite 15 dead and many injured. Bombs exploded at Constituicion station, West station subway, and Pacific station in Palermo. Palermo suburb hosts a large English and American population.
The Wickersham commission report on prohibition, sent to Congress by President Hoover, opposes repeal of the eighteenth amendment and rejects broad legalization or expansion of federal regulation. Kenneth Clark extinguished a gasoline stove blaze at his Mill street home using a blanket. He told firefighters the stove ignited while lighting a burner, and he alarmed then smothered the flames before the department arrived. Only minor damage resulted.
Chippewa township youth Lloyd Casner was held at the county jail for questioning after an 18 hour investigation into a late Monday night bean theft. about 260 pounds of beans were stolen from a barn at the Frank Schaffer farm 1401 East Broadway. Automobile tracks leading to and from the building provided a key clue to the suspect's location. Casner denied knowledge of the theft when questioned.

East Lansing Jan 20 Tentative program for Farmers Week at Michigan State College set for Feb 4 to 6 includes 31 organizations meeting on campus and exhibits across 14 divisions. Gov Brucker University of Michigan President Ruthven state officials and several outside experts will speak at general assemblies and group meetings.
The League of Nations council unanimously adopted the sixth preparatory commission report for general disarmament and urged fixing an early date for a world conference. A February or March 1932 start was anticipated, with a year of preparation deemed necessary for broad consensus on procedures.
An addition to the county detention home at 115 Chigpewa Street has been authorized to create extra space for the county health unit, which is headquartered in the building, along with the county school commissioners office. The new structure will be built on the north side of the building.

Northville Michigan January 20 UPi Removal of HarryS Ger ne in as mayor voted by four of five Northville commission members. Alleged poker game participation in a pool room and fixing a traffic ticket for a friend cited in a petition signed by citizens. A hearing will be held at the commission’s next meeting Monday night. German is widely known in athletic circles in the state and has pitched baseball for 40 years.
Detroit's 30th annual auto show opened with strong optimism from dealers. Officials reported 86 780 visitors over Saturday and Sunday, with Joseph A Schulte noting enthusiastic interest and many inquiries likely to convert into sales, signaling robust business ahead.

Lansing January 20 Three small highway construction projects were slated for approval by the state administrative board's highway committee. They include 0.3 miles of 20 and 40 foot concrete on US-2 in Delta county with grade separation approaches in Escanaba. A contract was set for L ak Brumm of Marquette at 29 dollars.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon for Dudley E. Waters 68 a longtime Grand Rapids banker who died at his home after a yearlong illness He had been involved with many banking ventures in Grand Rapids serving as treasurer of the Pantlind hotel company and a director of the Morton House
Pasadena physicians reported writer Anton Sinclair is recovering after a four day hiccup spell that nearly caused his death. Sinclair collapsed while reading to friends and was moved to his home as doctors feared for his life until improvement appeared Saturday night.
Thirty five local business men have signed for membership in a new Mt Pleasant credit bureau with others planning to join by week’s end to reach an even fifty. Manager C J O Sullivan says the bureau will link with state and national associations to provide reliable business information. It will begin operations February 1 with file preparation underway to offer merchants immediate service.
