Washington January 17 The Grigsby Gruniow company of Chicago, maker of radio sets, paid 5 302 879 15 in royalties to the Radio Trust in the last 18 months, Grigsby told the Senate Interstate Commerce Committee. He said retail buyers would have saved 15 million if royalties had not been added to costs.
Kenneth Keith of Pontiac aged 16 died after a .22 rifle cartridge exploded while he demonstrated the firearm’s safety catch at his grandfather Warren Keith’s farm ten miles northeast of Clare. He died within minutes. no inquest is planned.
Lansing January 17 the tax inquiry commission formed by the 1929 Legislature to survey the state's entire tax picture will hold its first meeting in Lansing today.

Bicknell as president and cashier at its annual stockholders meeting with A. E. Mulder first vice-president W. H. Irene Shroeder called the blonde trigger woman of Pittsburgh raved deliriously in a Phoenix jail cell. Deputies said she suffered from lack of stimulants and talked of a bank robbery at Coleman Texas and her brother J W Crawford possibly killed in a gun battle there. She with Glen Dayne and Joe Wells alias Ackerman were captured after a fight that wounded two deputies. the trio is wanted for the killing of Highway Corporal Brady Paul in Pennsylvania.
Detroit January 17 Charles Arthur Shires has been matched to fight Battling Criss of Rockwood Michigan in Chicago on January 24 Criss had been slated to face Shires but his prior cancellation led to a suspension by the Michigan Boxing Commission over alleged aims to take a dive.
Detroit police say detective Adolph Van Coppendle fabricated a story accusing Inspector Robert E. McPherson of ordering the shooting of Inspector Henry J. Garvin. Police Commissioner William P. Rutledge called the charges incredible and proposed a police board trial for Van Coppendo on conduct unbecoming an officer. Garvin remains hospitalized, Lois Bartlett 11 injured by shotgun fire.
Williamston Jan 17 oil was struck at 1 30 this morning at the Hilmar Oil company well in Locke township two and one half miles east and one and one half miles north of this place according to company officials Initial reports of a gusher and damaged derrick were denied The well came in with a substantial flow of oil and water but no definite check on capacity had been made yet
Seven robberies across oil stations and grocery and clothing stores in Detroit last night yielded a total of 502 dollars in taken cash. No further details on suspects or exact locations are provided.

Mt. Clemens January 17 Five men were arrested on dry law charges after federal prohibition agents raided the Matt Ush farm near Armada yesterday. A large still was found in a barn and brewing gear valued at twenty five thousand dollars was dismantled.
Washington reports that the Treasury Department appropriation bill for prohibition enforcement remains at about 34 million dollars with little prospect of a higher figure. Senator Harris of Georgia questioned the sufficiency and may seek amending the bill, while Rep. La Guardia plans to challenge prohibition items but likely cannot prevail in the dry House. The tenth anniversary of prohibition drew both support and opposition in debate across both chambers.
