Detroit reports a tragedy as 27 year old Jurley Barker dies in hospital, becoming the third victim of coal gas fumes from a disconnected stove pipe. His mother Mrs. Josephine Barker, 66, and his brother Cecil, 3, also perished. A fire department rescue squad tended an unidentified man in the Barker home in critical condition while remaining responders tried to revive him.
An aviation mishap over the Pacific involved two planes and a stunt parachutist Jacob Trickwasser brother of Mrs Theresa Cohoon. Lieut Col Roscoe Turner maneuvered to safety as three crew and a parachutist perished. A coroner jury condemned hazardous flying for film work. Newport RI coast guard has tracked a freighter in fog near Block Island.

Syracuse January 10 manslaughter charges filed against Ernest Watrouxs and Herbert Whipman for the fatal shooting of Ernest Sabrey 28 Brasher Falls after a car chase near Waverly on November 14. Sabrey died from a head wound. about $2000 of liquor was found in the car. Detained during inquiry were the two patrolmen.
Two year old Casimir Kalka was near death from burns after a fire destroyed his parents home in Bad Axe. The blaze also killed his infant brother Raymond.
Illness prompts a winter term reshuffle at Central State Teachers College. Prof. C. I. Tambling goes to Los Angeles for health, Grace Ryan and Georgia Hood take over his classes, and Mary Knier em joins to teach beginners in women’s physical education. Math head Cleon C. Richtmeyer is ill, with classes run by three students. Claude S. Larzelere leaves on tour. R. D. Calkins returns after a 12000 mile southern eastern U S trip.
Rep. Rankin of Mississippi condemned news photographers for depicting the Capitol fire as a burning catastrophe. He alleged they sounded sirens and burned torches to exaggerate the scene, calling the reels a desecration of the seat of government.
Six chorus girls collapsed mid performance at the National Theatre Burlesque House in Detroit last night. The audience initially thought it was part of the act as the show paused while attendants stabilized the frightened performers. Medical staff transported two dancers to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

A tropical disturbance about 300 miles east-southeast of Nassau Bahamas was reported by the U S Weather Bureau. It is of moderate intensity and moving slowly westward as of today.
Dr. Louis E. Mahoney of Santa Monica sues Idan M. Mahoney alleging fraud to induce marriage over childbearing. He claims she lied about bearing children and falsely stated age 35 when she was 42. Judge Edward Bishop in Los Angeles held the case for continuation.
Mt. Clemens Michigan January 10 22 army airplanes of the Arctic Patrol took off for Spokane Washington and return testing winter flying conditions. Major Ralph Royce commands the first pursuit group with 17 pursuit planes 3 transports and an observation plane. Takeoff from Lake St Clair occurred as 10 above zero and clear skies followed. The flight will stop at St Ignace overnight in Duluth. The test is described as the most difficult and hazardous peace time army flight.
Two Pure Oil wells struck oil in Chippewa and Vernon townships. Hughes Barry No 1 on Hawke lease in Section 11 produced from 3536 feet. Isabelle B-3 in Section 2 began flow at 5050 feet. Dundee topped at 3527 feet with 10 feet oil and 5 inch casing being set on DeStoop No 1 in Section 1. New permits include Sias Brown No 2 in Section 11 Chippewa and Gibbs Gordon No 2 in Greendale Section 7.
Detroit newspapers charge an unnamed Detroit police detective inspector behind the shooting of Inspector Henry J. Garvin on January 2. Garvin and Lois Bartlett were wounded. Garvin survived as investigators probe a jealousy motive and a web of alleged plots involving Inspector X and other officials.
