Three Bodies Found in Detroit Area Garage Fire

Charred remains of Allen Doane, 56, his wife Annie 65, and their nine year old niece Thelma Groves were discovered among the ruins of a Hazel Park garage building destroyed by fire. The Doanes lived on the second floor and all three appear to have died in their beds.

Grover Dillman Sworn In As Michigan Highway Chief

Grover C Dillman took the oath today as Michigan state highway commissioner replacing Frank Rogers who resigned last week. He named W R Burton as deputy highway commissioner and kept G C I Foster as construction engineer.

Grover C. Dillman, previously deputy commissioner and chief engineer, sworn in as state highway commissioner by Howard C. Lawrence after Gov. Fred W. Green accepted Frank I. Rogers resignation. Harris Family Officials Lead Mt Pleasant For 1929

E Harris was named mayor and E L Winslow as mayor pro tem as Mt Pleasant reorganized under the commission manager system for 1929. M T Kenney became supervisor at large while library board members R O Doughty George Garnard and Jos Schnitzler were reappointed. City Manager W K Willman reviewed 1928 achievements noting a $600000 equalized valuation loss but a lower tax rate rising from 1615 to about 1196 per thousand with valuation near 4800000. He praised safety gains including a motorcycle officer and urged fire department expansion with a new pumper.

Inland Steel to create lime and stone industry near Manistique

Inland Steel of Chicago will acquire Manistique Lime and Stone and form Inland Lime and Stone to mine and mill limestone. A $5,000,000 outlay is planned with rock crushing mills a shipping harbor and railroad to Croix Point in Schoolcraft County, production expected late 1930. State geologist R. A. Accident Victim Expected to Die in Detroit Shooting

Detroit January 8 13 year old George Brezizynsky remained in serious condition after being accidentally shot during a make believe holdup game. His playmate Joseph Puwal 14 held the pistol to the victim and fired. A operation and blood transfusion were performed but doctors said his condition was grim.
