Lansing January 3 The conservation commission refused to waver from its policy of withholding salt lands near the Turtle Lake Hunting club turning down H K Gustin of Alpena's 15 year old exchange proposal. The commission cited duty to retain hunting land for the public and also rejected H B Franks' purchase of limestone rights advising a lease instead. The Enten tion was made under a new policy of not setting mineral rights outright.

France led by Premier An dre Tardieu presses for sanctions if Germany defaults, while the United States is represented unofficially by Edwin Wilson. The meeting aims to ratify the plan and settle minor claims and financial issues affecting reparations.
In St Joseph Michigan on January 3 Charles Russow a rich retired farmer living in Buchanan attacked his wife and two daughters with a baseball bat then shot himself in the basement. Deputies found his body at the stairs with a shotgun in hand. No motive could be found.
Nome Alaska January 3 one Fairchild monoplane of the Aviation Corporation rescue unit ground looped on the field at Fairbanks during takeoff for Nome and was damaged. An earlier report says the rescue expedition met a temporary setback today.
