Banking lawmen called for volunteers as American Legion men joined the effort. A sharpshooter cordon surrounded the jail to prevent a Spurlock family raid. The Spurlocks were moved to Jeffersonville, while Gifford Gibson surrendered after a tense standoff, ending with a sheriff directing a search for the fugitive Fikséns.
Robbers broke into a Deerfield Center general store and a gas station Sunday night, taking groceries, tobaccos, candy and other items valued over 200 dollars. It was the third Isabella county store robbery in seven days as investigators examined snow tracks and fingerprints. Simon Jewell owned the store. County officers also faced unresolved lootings at Coe and Leaton stores from the prior week.

Ell Hoofen 28 a student flier was killed when his plane nosedived at a field near Detroit. Instructor Gerald Francis escaped with facial lacerations after the aircraft struck ground while descending from 200 to 400 feet. Hoofen died at Mt. Clemens hospital about hours after the crash. Francis was treated and released.

Bay City Mich Dec 29 700 persons mainly women and children fled the lobby as fire swept the Washington theatre. An employee Lawrence Reichenbach directed the evacuations from the stage. Lobby damage was estimated at 15000 dollars.
