Senator Walsh of Massachusetts denounces the administration relief proposals as inadequate. He calls Democrats to present their own program with higher taxes on rich incomes to fund broad relief, arguing the unemployed need work opportunities not a dole.
Kellogg company says 1931 advertising will exceed any prior year as demand rises. W. K. Kellogg, chairman, notes expansion includes a new $1,000,000 addition to the Battle Creek plant and a continued push in manufacturing and sales.
Brussels scientists from Brussels and Liege universities and Queen Elizabeth's Scientific Foundation studied the Meuse Valley fog deaths. They found fog alone insufficient to cause all deaths and noted measures against toxic substances without detailing their nature or scope.
A W Thompson state director of interscholastic athletics will speak at Sacred Heart Academy football banquet tonight honoring the 1930 gridiron warriors. Other speakers include A J Nowack Central State college coach and Tom McNamara Mr Pleasant attorney. Sixteen Irish squad members are to receive numerals for this fall with eleven wins three ties and three losses.
Plans for a 6.75 million prison program over ten years will be reviewed by the state prison commission in Jackson. A. I. Johnson outlines a new habitual criminals prison at 3.8 million, a 2 million reform school, and a 750 thousand women’s prison. Marquette prison would be enlarged to 2,000 capacity.
A warrant was issued in Royal Oak Township for John W. Bovee of Clawson Michigan a justice of the peace accused of misappropriating fines and fees totaling four thousand dollars over eight months from April 29. He claims he has been framed and is to appear in court as announced today.
New York December reports a young detective George E Webber and three officers cornered four escapees from Beacon State Hospital for the Criminal Insane in a bare Brooklyn apartment near dawn. The group included William Nelson Harry Gordon John Biggins and Rank Gambill. A woman, Marie Ockenfels, was charged with harboring criminals. Detectors traced the fugitives to the location.

James Freeze 18, a mechanic at Naumes garage on N Main Street, was seriously injured when an elevator shaft cage pinned him during repair work. He was taken to Brandstetter Hospital in serious condition with fractured ribs and possible internal injuries after the shaft moved upward when power failed. Freeze was riding atop the cage with an electrician. coworkers rescued him and lowered him to the main floor. He has worked at the garage about four months and is married.
Three pedestrians died in Detroit weekend crashes. Mrs. Mary Kanowski died at Receiving hospital after being struck by Merle Luttenton's car. David Robinson, 60, was fatally injured crossing against a red signal and hit by Harry Keal's vehicle. Phillip Martin also died after walking into a car.
Gov elect Wilber M. Brucker will have a free hand in appointing aides, says Gov. Fred W. Green who offers aid and says the administration will keep veterans in the Capitol. Green spoke at the Michigan Veterans of Foreign Wars annual feed as Brucker addressed the gathering briefly. Green stressed no forced advice or special appointments and praised veterans' humanitarian work in Eaton Rapids.
A radio message describes a flight toward Mount Pleasant with plans to land about 6 PM and reach Broadway and Main by 7 15 PM. The speaker invites local youths to greet him downtown, mentions a Buick arrival and a pilot named Bill Murray, and asks for letters to be delivered to the Daily Times office.
A United Press report says at least 20 senators will oppose the Root World Court treaty, signaling possible defeat or delay when presented to the Senate. President Hoover prepares to transmit the treaty and seek ratification amid opposition from Republican and other lawmakers.
Fourteen members of the 1930 U S Indian school eleven were awarded letters in honor of their service to the season's football team at a dancing party in the school gym. Of the lettermen, five will graduate and leave the squad next fall. Co captains Adam LaPoint and Lawrence Curtis led the group alongside Gar land Moses and other players such as T LaBell S Howard Hugi Wabegeshik Tom Green and Ernest Hill.
Fourteen sailors died and seven were injured when an explosion hit the Italian salvage ship Artiglio off L Orient France while locating the sunken liner Egypt near Brest. Divers among the dead aided in the initial examination, and the vessel sank after the blast ending efforts to raise the Egypt.

Edward Cole a 17 year old Denver township youth drowned Sunday while crossing thin ice on Long Lake seven miles west of Weidman. Two companions John Mitchell and Edward Chapman attempted rescue but risked their lives on brittle ice. The body was recovered after boats reached the scene late in the afternoon. Cole son of Lucius and Mrs Cole of Seaton farm. his brother traveling to California expected home for funeral services. Long Lake is among the Six Lakes on the Isabella Mecosta line.
BELLOWS FALLS VI December 8. UPI Vermont enforces nine year old blue laws with Sunday closure for most business except a paper mill. Twenty eight merchants arrested last week for Sabbath trading after townspeople petitioned. Taxi service collapsed while North Walpole New Hampshire residents bought Sunday papers across the bridge.
Nelson G. Farrier, 43, a member of the lower house from Presque Isle, died yesterday. He served six terms and represented Presque Isle in the Michigan legislature. His death was reported from Hillman, Michigan.
Cloudy conditions with threats tonight and Tuesday and little temperature change for lower Michigan. Upper Michigan mostly cloudy with light snow likely in extreme east portions and minimal temperature variation. The Shepherd high school junior class will present the three act comedy The College Hobo in the high school auditorium Thursday evening December 18. Directed by Donald J Carpp the play features a large cast including Mr Sims Harry Brattin Sally Sims Irene Lynch Hobo Rodney Rochester Patricia Ida Grace Moats Fritzy Bess Lileen Mildred Myers Pay Harry Marie Weston Adolphus Red Ray Vroman Professor Crockett Robert Allen Miss Weaver Eileen Hummel Marvin Marshall William Bunker Susie Johnson Gertrude Wendh Jonnie Johnson Clayton Stauhlman and others.

Workers at the Borden condensing plant were an hour late after a change in starting time from eight to nine o'clock. The plant office announced the new schedule as a convenience to farmers.

The bill's total appropriations exceed current year levels, with 15.95 million in reappropriations bringing the total to 85.35 million. Hoover dam gets 16 million, below budget bureau recommendation.
