In Jaffa district clashes leave seven Jews and Arabs dead with 15 wounded. British troops deploy and fortify Haifa and Jaffa as 700 Jews are moved to Mt Carmel settlements. Haifa sees a railway official killed and hundreds injured across Palestine.
Detroit hosts a six day national convention from Sept. 9 to 14 showcasing the beauty industry’s power, magnificence and achievements with events scheduled in the city.
American and European car makers fear Spain may establish government owned automobile plants to supply medium and low priced cars. The move could cost U.S. firms like Ford and General Motors millions in yearly business while Spain seeks greater revenue and military independence in transportation.
Early today a fire destroyed the Rosebush Creamery building owned by the Columbia Sugar company and damaged the Baptist church in Rosebush. Fire units from Clare and Coleman contained the blaze after it was spotted at about 2 20 am by resident Archie Muma. The church has not held services recently and losses are not yet estimated. Partial insurance was reported on both structures.
Krishnamurti in OMMIEN Holland says truth cannot be found by following an organization. He explains the dissolution of his Order of the Star of the East to the United Press at the International Camp Conference. He argues spiritual life cannot be imposed by faith and must come from inner forces.
U P radio says the American freighter Paulsboro, en route to New York from Gulf Ports, is in distress amid a tropical disturbance east of the Florida coast. The steamer Bacon, with 44 crew aboard, stands by but cannot tow due to heavy seas. A fire in the hold prompted the call for shore assistance. The Paulsboro’s position was 202 miles west northwest of the Tortugas.
Lansing August 28. Auditor General C B Fuller declined to send out 32 million in weight tax funds to county treasurers citing no balance in the highway fund. Payment to counties postponed to September 1 when transfers from the secretary of state to the highway department account occur.
James Gosler of Bay City married Miss Mayme O'Brien at Sacred Heart Church in a morning ceremony. They will live in a furnished home and begin housekeeping soon. The bride has lived here all her life and the groom works for Columbia Sugar Co.
The 28 August report says Britain secured 78 percent of its reparations demands after talks with Italy France Japan and Belgium with Germany present. Snowden will receive over 83 percent of his demand and Italy agreed to buy 1 000 000 tons of British coal annually for three years. Britain eyes Rhineland evacuation next.
Robert G. Hill, 64, postmaster for six years and Kent county Republican chairman, died suddenly of heart disease at his home. A Grand Rapids native who came from Kansas at age 12, he worked in the city treasurer’s office beginning in 1905, then served as county clerk from 1913 before 1922 appointment as postmaster by Coolidge. He fought with Company Three, 82nd Michigan Volunteer Infantry in the Spanish American War. Survived by his widow, daughter Barbara, brother Richard Hill of Toledo, and sister Mrs. Lilly Love of St. Joseph.
At Municipal Airport Cleveland August 28 crowd cheers as Graf Zeppelin arrives ahead of schedule and Los Angeles follows, part of an armada of five blimps. The event features Navy craft, air derbies, and public demonstrations planned for Akron and field aviation- eager observers witness historic lighter-than-air progress.
The national air races bring sorrow as four deaths occur in derbies. In Boston a Philadelphia to Cleveland crash killed Edward J. Devyeraux his wife Hermine and Edward Reis, all New Yorkers. Miss Marvel Crosson, a woman derby flyer, died near Wellton Arizona in a desert crash. A parachute jumper was injured at the airport in a separate incident.
Frank Wilson and his son Arthur, both from near Mt. Pleasant, were arrested after Mt. Pleasant area merchants reported forged checks from $5 to $30. Arthur, 18, was sentenced in Ithaca to one to 14 years. Frank awaits arraignment before Judge Ray Hart. Authorities say more forgeries may be linked to the pair.

The Graf Zeppelin, en route to Cleveland and Lakehurst, rode irregular skies over Iowa Kansas and Missouri. Storms delayed its pace but by morning it crossed Kansas toward Iola with winds driving performance as crowds gathered in Chicago Kansas City St. Louis.

Space will be ample for delegates. three state legislature buildings for the oo club encampment will be available.
The endurance monoplane We Will, crewed by Russell Mossman and C E Steele, logged its 117th hour aloft at 7 31 p m central Chicago time The flight is backed by M QO Powrozik a Chicago building contractor who vowed to present the plane to the pilots and prize them 10000 if they surpass the 17 day 12 hour record set by the St Louis Robin
