Injuries Fatal To Aged Farwell Man
Arthur J. Umphrey aged 72 died at ReedER hospital from injuries after being struck by a car three miles south of Farwell late Wednesday night. The driver John Miller of Farwell was not blamed. Umphrey, a retired farmer, was crossing the road when hit.

Fire truck for Springport wrecks on trial run

Ex convict held for murder of Doris Loree near Carson City
William H. Davis, 25, a paroled convict, confessed to killing 63 year old widow Doris Loree with a shotgun at her farm near Carson City to force her to write two checks totaling 800 dollars. He pleaded guilty to first degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison. He said he needed 800 to cover an overdue car payment after being trapped by police returning from Grand Rapids.
