Washington reports a rum runner using a smoke screen rammed car was chased by police. Ottmar Fleming, 21, was killed when bullets struck the vehicle. Jack Stivens fled but was captured after a chase. In the rear seat police found 15 liquor cases and Stivens faces liquor charges.
The Missouri Senate passes a bill to build a 2,360,000 hospital for tubercular inmates at the state penitentiary near the prison. Forty tubercular convicts are housed in a temporary wooden structure on the penitentiary grounds awaiting a final decision by the House.
In Bologna Italy on April 24 three seamstresses each received a sewing machine as a gift from the Duce after a local sewing competition at Malabergo. The winners included two war orphans who had not afforded machines to earn a living, and they had appealed to Mussolini for aid.
United Press features directions from Brown a noted amateur cook for a chicken paprikash dish. The method involves roasting and stewing a whole fowl with onions fat paprika and no water then finishing with sour cream and served with the juices.
Miss Eleanor Seymour, 22, of Buffalo, was fined 100 dollars and jailed ten days in city court for a disturbance at the Peace Bridge end of the span to Fort Erie. She drove up intoxicated in male attire, refused to exit, fought three customs men and two policemen, and struck a officer. The judge noted the license provoked.
In Brooklyn Heights, two well dressed men identified as Isa dore Schiller and Morris Fuerstman were found murdered. They were stabbed with an ice pick and one eye gouged. Fuerstman had been released from Atlanta federal prison, Schiller from Eastern penitentiary.
The Chicago board of education's crackdown on indifferent parents led to six arrests for violating the compulsory education law. Five parents paid fines totaling 124 dollars, and a sixth was jailed when unable to pay a ten dollar fine. One truancy case involved Colletta Liston, 15, at the Libby school, with her mother to be tried by an unofficial jury of prominent women. Liston’s parental neglect trial was postponed for one week upon defense request.
On Tristan da Cunha Rev. R A G Pooley reports vast supplies of Bibles and salts for the islanders. He notes 150 pounds of salts and five Bibles per resident, while food clothing watches paint barometers and seeds are their top needs.

Thompson Hickett appeared at the Oklahoma City courthouse seeking a divorce but was jailed on a warrant charging child desertion. A deputy sheriff identified him as the suspect in the desertion case and he faced immediate custody.
Senator Smith W. Brookhart of Iowa, a leading Hoover campaigner, denounced the president in a Senate speech urging Congress to ignore Hoover and pass a real farm bill. He accused Hoover of breaking pledges to farmers and called for legislation to place agriculture on equal footing with industry.

Lansing April 24 U P reports C H Rungenan of Lowell told a legislative panel that canceling the agriculture department bean price agreement angered jobbers farmers and elevator men. He said contracts forced on jobbers harmed the industry and blamed declines in price on artificial market fixing as seed bean demand nears.
In London on April 24 AU P, a new business lets customers hire dogs to complement their outfits. Fanciers offer large black and white dogs for magpie two piece costumes while brindle-colored dogs suit country wear, as temporary owners take dogs to dress shows to compare patterns with their attire.
In Colorado Springs Allan Carey 88 and Ruth Davis 17 died after Carey murdered Davis and staged a death by own action. A coroner's inquest found suffocation as the girl's cause of death and that Carey killed himself with poison and knife wounds after hiding Davis in a car following a dismissed stay at the Union Printers Home.
In Waterbury Connecticut a common pleas judge issued an injunction ordering John J. Fairchild and his wife Hilda to refrain from actions that might alienate Mrs. Arthur S. Hart of Watertown from her husband. It is believed to be one of the first court orders of its kind addressing spousal affection.
E O Harris announces E S Anderson of Zeeland has been named Mt Pleasant city manager. He will assume duties next week after months as Zeeland city engineer and prior experience with the state highway department and motor company land department. Anderson, a Michigan State engineering graduate and registered engineer, is married with two children.
Madison April 24 The Wisconsin General Assembly appears liberalizing with bills and actions suggesting movement toward repealing prohibition laws and restricting blue laws. Senate leader Thomas W Duncan notes a shift toward released personal liberties including alcohol, uncensored movies, untaxed cigarettes, licensed private detectives, and abolition of the eighteenth amendment.
London reports Princess Elizabeth, the three year old daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York, sparks a new yellow fashion for babies. Mothers imitate her yellow outfits and nurseries, with shops featuring yellow baby beds, silk and muslin garments, and yellow bonnets becoming widespread.
